Ogallala Aftershave as Hair Tonic?

Yes, I realize that is a strange thread title, but let me explain.

The other morning, I had to be up exceptionally early. I'm not a morning person, and can't really think clearly until my coffee has taken effect. As I stood before my sink, going through my morning ritual, I found myself pouring Ogallala Aftershave (Limes & Peppercorns) into my hand and then rubbing it on my head. Yes, I meant to put it on my face, but for some reason my fatigued brain did not make the connection.

Rather than jump back in the shower and rinse it out, I decided to just leave it and be smarter next time.

To my surprise, after the stuff dried (I didn't use much), my hair felt really soft and thick...it also had a nice sheen to it. A woman at work asked me what I was wearing, and I told her it was probably my hair (I said it was the shampoo, not wanting to admit that I had put aftershave in it :blushing:)

Anyway, after the experience, I used it again yesterday morning and again today...my hair looks and feels great!

The ingredients are simple enough, and I imagine whatever alcohol is in the stuff evaporates fairly quick...I read somewhere that witch hazel is supposed to be good for your hair.

So, before I get hooked on it, I'm curious if anyone has a bottle of Pashana or something similar, and if so could you post a list of the ingredients?

I'm curious to see how this stuff compares to hair tonics, or if anyone can think of a reason why it would be bad to continue using as one.

Cheers.

I use benjamins Bay rum in the same way, out of shower, shave, aftershave into hand over face and into hair, great stuff, especially if you work up a sweat you smell better and better :D I have really short hair and so rarely find the need to wear wax, but this stuff as you say just gives your hair "something" :D

I had an "olde tyme" Italian barber (now long retired) who would rub some bay rum on your neck and into your hair after getting a cut. I would think tho, that if done regularly, the alcohol might be drying to your scalp and/or damaging to your hair.

But, for a special occasion or with a low-alcohol version, why not?

I like to use the Booster aftershaves in the same way. If they contain glycerin they even provide a little hold. Alot of the old time tonics were all purpose lotions. I frequently use vintage Pinaud Eau de Quinine hair tonic as aftershave and it works great.

Osage Rub started as a hair tonic and then started being used as an aftershave I guess turnabout is fair play. Osage rub has also been marketed as a mouthwash but I would not recommend trying that with the Ogallala. :tongue_sm
