What's new

Off Center, but not by much

I recently picked up a Boker Edelweis (new) and gotta say it shaves great. I have noticed that when compared to my other straights, the blade closes maybe 1 mm off center. Pretty sure the blade is set in there caddywampus because I can feel the scales flex:huh: ever so, so slightlywhen I open and close it. Granted, this ain't a high-zoot razor, but it isn't a Gold Dollar either. I guess my question would be: is this sort of a "tolerance" thing with mass-produced mid-grade razors? The toe of the blade clears the scale when closed, but it is kind of up snug close to the side. Is this an everyday thing or do I have a "factory second here"?
(Hmmm...does Boker even make and sell "factory seconds")?:a38:

Likely OK, you can try steaming the scales and gently forcing them in the direcion you want them to go. You can likely get them to center.

Bone...not sure about the steam. No big deal though. The vendor agreed something wasn't right and authorized a return.

You can pry the scales in the centering direction and tap the pivot pin with a ball peen hammer very lightly. This may center it. Has worked for me before.
