Odd variation of 1940's SS

I have come across an odd variation of a date code Y-3 (1953) '40's style Super Speed. What is strange is that it has split end caps made of carbon steel that don't match the finish on the rest of the razor. I don't believe that it is a Ranger Tech hybrid because it has a notch for the blade dispenser, a creased blade tray and a date code. It says made in the USA. Has anyone seen this variation before?

I believe your endcaps are simply missing, like on my red tip:

Those are good suggestions. However, when I compare it to my other Y-date code Super Speeds, it appears that there aren't any parts missing, and that this is "by design." In fact, this one looks like a Sheraton or Ranger Tech in that it has "split" end caps. It is very strange indeed.

Would someone mind pointing out to me what is meant by endcaps? And how one knows if they are missing. I just can't seem to figure it out on my own. Thanks in advance.

This forum is great for finding information. I noticed the anomaly on the "red tip" I got recently. This is an old thread, but it might help another novice vintage collector.

Old thread that's lost all the pics ... too bad.

It's like driving a car missing a hubcap ... not sure if I'd call it an anomaly, more like bad luck. :001_unsur

You can heat it up and apply a bit more solder, smooth it out evenly, and polish it up a little and it doesn't look so crusty. If it's a razor I really like I'll stick another one on from a donor super speed.

I razor works fine and I don't mind then anomaly. Last week I placed a low bid on another red tip, unexpectedly winning at $7. It should arrive this week. Maybe I will be more lucky and it will have all it's hubcaps. :)
