Timeless Slim OC / Amazon Solimo
timelessoc24.jpg

This is my favorite combo.
Timeless Slim OC, 100mm Barberpole, all polished steel to please Crom. Praised be Crom the Pure, down with Chrome and heathen coatings! 🗡️

Cella Red, my 34mm F-400 brush from RazoRock and my by now clearly favored Dapper Dan Gold aftershave (a bit like one of the Aigner aftershaves, according to a trustworthy source it smells like an old man in a brothel, I like it a lot). Green ~ Mennen Skin Bracer, Blue ~ Williams Aqua Velva.

It goes very well with the almond scent of the soap.

The Slim isn't picky with blades. Or is picky with the angle and gives one much leeway. I interestingly don't do the more shallow and mild angle that much, only for the first pass. ATG I go very steep and that is the moment the Slim surpasses most of my other razors.

The R41 can compete for closeness, but is more likely to cut me.

This razor is not a guided experience, it gives the shaver a lot of angle freedom. What a word. Hmm...

Together with SuperSlant and Wunderbar still my top choice.

I typed this on my phone, Crom knows all typos were caused by vile auto correct. ✌️

Edit: blade choice doesn't matter that much for the Slim. These are rebranded Personna.

P.S. why does Timeless use delrin washers instead of nylon? I googled the difference, the material is a bit more... timeless. 😁
For the polished and flat Timeless plates a washer is highly recommended.

DeHaven model no.3 🇺🇸 Schick Injector 🇯🇵
IMG_20241013_081044332.jpg

Hugh DeHaven was an American engineer and inventor who survived a near fatal mid-air collision while training to be a pilot in WWI with the Royal Flying Corps Canada (the other pilot was killed).

After devoting the 1920s to his self-stropping safety razor company, in 1933 - after surviving an automobile accident - he turned his considerable talents to crash safety, starting with a series of experiments dropping egg cartons from various heights!

In 1942 he founded the Crash Injury Research Project at Cornell University, and his many contributions to safety in the automotive and aviation industries led to him being dubbed the "Father of Crash Survivability".

Provided you have an original blade the model no.3 can be fairly easily adapted to take a standard injector blade. It's a lightweight razor that offers a surprisingly smooth and thorough shave, although I've not yet felt the urge to utilise its self-stropping properties.

OCtober Day 13

Gillette New Deluxe
Nacet (7)

Two passes, DFS

For the last day with the Nacet, I decided to pair it with the New Deluxe for a two-pass shave to give my face an "easy but close enough" Sunday. It's a harsh combo, alas. I'm not sure the New Deluxe fits my preferences. Too much blade chatter.

Tomorrow, I'll be breaking out the Probak to get in a week of milder OC shaves.

Sunday Shave, OCtober 13th 2024

Razor : Gem Micromatic OC .Mfg 1930- 41, mid to upper mid range. Excellent machining + metal stamping for that time era. The Micromatic OC is one of the more aggressive Gem razors variants in my opinion. I do receive excellent results usually with a light touch has been my experiences over the years. Had a close comfortable shave this morning.
Blade : Gem Personna SS PTFE (8) very sharp, smooths out nicely, excellent longevity, predictable + safest blade to handle.
Soap : Razorock Lavender, nice rich scent of lavender + excellent lather qualities. One of my favorite lavender soaps(obsolete!).
Brush : Yaqi "Purple haze" 24mm synthetic. Excellent lather generator, luxury cloud like soft tips, gentle splay scrubber, excellent lather painter. Nice handle and knot for my shave needs.
Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area.
Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG + pickups.
Post shave : Razorock King Louis lavender with witch hazel + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion(scentless).
Results : Dial 9.5.jpg or CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + no weepers=:a17: Had a close comfortable shave this morning with my Gem Micromatic OC with a coated Gem blade.

I've always wanted to experience a great shave with an Old Type, and I've always fallen short because the Old Types have been just too aggressive for me. However, today I may have finally figured it out. I loaded my oldest razor, a 1906 Single Ring, with the Derby Premium that I've been enjoying so much lately. I gave one demerit on the smoothness score because the blade was the slightest bit tuggy; but that may have been the extremely light touch I was using. Everything else about the shave was amazing, and I've rarely experienced that before with any Gillette razor predating a NEW type. For me at least, it looks like using a shallow angle and a light touch is the key to making this Single Ring sing.

My shave scoring log is found HERE.

Happy shaves everyone :badger:

Usually I start with my Timeless Slim, but this time rather with the jurassic period version of Fatip Open Comb design.

This razor was inspired by the RaDiMi razor, short for Rasoio di Milano, as @Mr Konrad Dundee and others figured out. Just like the original the handle is a bit on the, at least for me, short side. A pity, I absolutely love it otherwise.

This is more a spiritual predecessor to the Fatips and a treatment to Italian design. The Yaqi adaptation also turned out extremely nice. I am not a fan of them going for adjustables lately, I still prefer three piece designs with or without washer. 😉
I put this razor on the list...let's see 😁
a razor like this made of steel is worth having in your team
