Notes to today’s shave:

What can I say - blissful shave. KCG blade still going strong and an amazing teammate for the Fatip SE OC. Everything Proraso was wonderful and really combining with each other (duh - all from the same line). Even my worn-down badger brush (my oldest and first brush since I was 18-19) was a great performer today. I think it really benefits from John's (@tjsgarden) lathering method. Kudos to John!

Continued my revisit of earlier used techniques and I must say that those double Gillette Slide passes combined with a single ATG pass makes for one comfortable shave. My increased experience helps in the efficiency department as I also understand all of my razors better.

Just a few more days and November is here! I am looking forward to using my SB razors!

Enjoy your shaves!

A below par shave today 😐 To be fair, my lathering game has been pants this week but at least I know what needs fixing.

Razor:
New LC
Blade: 7 O'Clock Black (1)
Brush: Shavemac 22/50
Soap: Shave Chaser CK-6
ASL: Shave Chaser

20221027_213830.jpg

I chose my New LC to see how it would handle twelve days worth of stubble, after the 11:00pm slot opened up in the Shaving/Laundry Room.
The 9-10pm slot was open, but with sound effects that start at 9:50pm on que, and last around 45 minutes. I had a cup of coffee.

After face lathering the CK-6 formula for a good five minutes with the Shavemac 22/50 the lather was perfectly runny and I started the shave at my left sideburn for a WTG first pass.
The razor easily whizzed through the stubble on the left side of my face, but clogged enough that I took it apart to rinse.
Same with the right side of my face, and both sides of my neck.

After a thorough rinsing of the New LC, I lathered up with the CK-6 still perfectly runny and warmed up in my PAA brush warmer for the second, ATG pass.

Shaving from the base of my neck upwards is what I call my ATG pass, but once I get to my face I freestyle if the razor permits. And it's a good thing, as the New LC really needed lots of different directions to get all the stubble on the second pass, performing admirably despite the troubling start.

The shave itself was very smooth, and even with the razor clogging up.

The Witch hazel felt warm and fuzzy, the Shave Chaser has an interesting cooling effect, and the Nivea balm was all I needed for a pleasant late night shave.

Tabactober/OCtober the Seventh
RazoRock Lupo 95 OC, Wee Scot, Tabac, Captains Choice Bay Rum aftershave

Second chance for this Timor, kept it to two passes and went with maximum carefuling, still ended up with some irritation. Had to call upon the services of the good Captain's finest to sort it out in the afters.

I'll give it two chances in my Tradere OC next, but it's not looking good.

Back into the OCtober fray with:
  • 1938ish Senator replated in mirror nickel by Back Roads Gold
  • vintage English Nacet blade (1976?) (5)
  • Noxema as preshave
  • vintage Williams shave soap
  • Fendrihan synthetic brush
  • Old Spice Classic splash after some soothing unscented Thayer's Witch Hazel
PXL_20221028_135917065.jpg

The Senator, like the Sheraton and the Aristocrat of the same era, shaves like a dream with a somehow contradictory character of presenting a fair amount of blade feel without being aggressive. The NACET has been a fantastic performer being smooth for every shave. I am retiring it after this fifth bout with my whiskers because it is losing its sharpness. After two passes, I had a perfectly acceptable DFS, but I wanted more. Rather than touch up with the NACET, I went to my bench and substituted my birth year (1961) Tech loaded with a Dorco Prime blade. The Tech finished my BBS without a hint of irritation. The Witch Hazel (recently purchased and tried for the first time) is very soothing, and I will likely use it every time as the first thing on my face after a shave. The Old Spice splash gave me some "refreshing" feedback.

For Sunday and my last OCtober shave, I'm probably going to use my oldest razor, a 1906 standard Silver OLD Type. A lingering question for me though is whether now is the time to give an old three-hole Gillette blade a go too. I've got some NOS blades from the late 1920s 🤔.

Trick or Treat week, Friday, OCtober 28th 2022

Razor : Razorock Old type OC, Mfg 2015>, nice mild range OC, some tab overhang, simple design and works well. I use to take this razor when travelling in Mexico in case of nicks and irritation(if you nick yourself it is from poor technique IMO + great little razor and affordable IMO.
Blade : Treet carbon steel- sharp & smooth with minimal longevity IMO. 1 & 2 shaves are great but tends to fall off after that.
Soap : Gillette Pure cream, nice clean sweet scent with excellent lather qualities. Makes excellent ubber lather from remnants of soap also in bowl.
Brush : Yaqi(Casino clubs) 26mm timber wolf synthetic knot, excellent lather generator, heavenly luxury cloud like soft tips, gentle splay scrubber + excellent lather painter.
Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area.
Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG + pickups.
Post shave : Pinaud Clubman with witch hazel + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion(scentless).
Results :CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + no weepers= great shave with my RR old type OC with a Treet carbon steel blade.

SOTD: Friday October 28, 2022 (OCtober 5th)
Razor: RazoRock BBS-OC
Blade: Astra SP (5)
Brush: Omega 10005
Soap: OH Peppermint Trip

After pulling off a three-day and a four-day shave in the last couple of weeks, the edge is a bit tired. As always I've washed the blade and put it to dry and will retire it with honour.

As my practice has been lately, I will haul out the Rex Konsul on Monday for a run before I decide what's after that...

Notes to today’s shave:

First run with a nee to me blade which was part of a blade pack by Jack
. Stainless steel blade and from stroke one super smooth. Very comfortable and indeed sharp - so incurred a couple of weepers/nicks on the ATG on the neck.

The pairing with the NEW Improved is marvellous. This remains a very nimble, smooth and easy to use razor - extremely happy with this one!
:001_wub:

Used Tabac again today and that did not disappoint either. Super slick. Tipdip lathering worked but my boar is my most thirsty brush so I need to load heavier next time.

Excellent start of Saturday!

Took the Fatip il Grosso out for its maiden voyage this morning and it delivered big time.

It was very smooth, very comfortable and the handle is excellent. No hint of finger slippage at all (and I shave in the shower).

In fact, the handle might be the star of the show here. The additional length and weight somehow made it easier for me to maintain a light touch throughout the shave.

All in all a cracking good shave was had 🙂
