Nutritional yeast?

Anybody else use this? Good 'ol Mom just sent me a bag and says she uses it "for everything". I tried it on some baked potatoes and in a stir fry and it actually tastes pretty good (though I had to use quite a lot to get any real flavor out of it). Any other nutritional yeast believers out there?

I sell lots and lots of it at work. I hate stocking the bulk bin, as it gets EVERYWHERE including my lungs. Makes me cough for hours.:mad3:

Engevita or Torula?
Torula is the main ingredient in bbq potato chip flavour and most commercial rotisserie bbq chicken surprisingly enough.

My mom puts engevita on popcorn... "insert barfing smiley"

Torula's got lots of iron, engevita B12. Engevita is more commonly sold as "nutritional yeast"

I know it's being used a lot as a "taste amplifier" in soups, broths, sausages etc. There's been a bit of a discussion about it in Sweden where some people think it's a way of "hiding" lower quality ingredients/cooking/handling by adding "artificial" taste. I haven't really thought much about it except that it makes things taste better

I use it from time to time on all sorts of things. It's really good for you, and I don't think you need much for the benefit.

I have had Vegemite before. Disgustingly, horrendous goo. I'll never trust another Australian as long as I live. I don't care if she's a perfectly bronzed, brunette cutie with the cutest accent on Earth. That "tiger toast" I tried was just plain yuck.

Vegemite and Marmite are not the same thing as Nutritional Yeast, even though they have probably the same function. Marmite and Vegemite are brewers yeast.

Nutritional Yeast is a dry, yellow flaky powder that you can sprinkle on foods. I put mine on popcorn mostly, but I've added it to dips and soups, too.

Love the stuff myself.

Granted, I can't eat it very often, and only a little each time, but it still is good.

Well, I'd say: *trust her* then, but leave before breakfast!
