Not what I expected from my sampler pack

About a week ago I saw the Shark Week thread where everyone was going to use Shark blades for the week. Since I am trying to dial in which blade works best (I have pretty much everything else figured out, razor, brushes, soaps) I got myself a build your own sampler and decided to put some Sharks in there to join in the fun. Since I still had a day of Shark Week left I decided to use one of those first.

The Shark Super Chrome is the finest shaving implement ever to be in my hand. I got four of the closest, easiest, and most comfortable shaves of my life. I also got a pack of Shark Super Stainless, and Gillette green, yellow, and silver blues to round out the sampler. Maybe one of those will be even better, but I don't see how.

I definitely was not expecting to be blown away one blade into a 25 blade pack, I was expecting this to take a while, going back and forth. I almost pulled the trigger on a 100 pack of the Shark SC's already.

Shark SC blades are my best bang-for-the-buck blades. I too tired them on a whim and liked them enough to pull in the 100 pack. I think they perform well enough to hold up though 3 shaves with ease. The Super Stainless were ok as well, but not nearly as good imho as the SC.

There have been a couple of threads (here and here) which suggest the Shark Super Chrome blades have changed recently. Were your blades wrapped in white paper with blue writing or yellow paper with red writing? It seems the yellow/red are the newer production which some users find less smooth than the older white/blue. If the blades in your sampler were the older production it might be worth trying to get hold of a few of the newer production before committing to a bulk buy.

I just had a shipment of the yellow paper with red writing ones and I find them better than the old ones in my opinion. So I went and ordered another hundred.

I have found that, almost irrespective of brand, that any blade labeled simply "stainless" are murder on my skin. Super Chrome Stainless, no problem. Chrome Platinum, no problem. Super duper stainless with chromium, iridium, teflon...no problem.

Stainless....ouchie for my face.

Good to know. Mine were the yellow/red wrapper, in the white plastic case, so it looks like I fell in love with the current gen model. :)

Interesting. I have tried a couple blades that tore my face off. I believe they were stainless, too. I'll have to test your theory on the coated vs plain old stainless blades.

I wish you luck with those; the Shark SC, while initially a strong performer for me, did not have good longevity.
