What's new

Not today it wasn't

Still being a wet behind the ears rookie with the straight, I proceeded to do my shave today with my Feather AC. I've been getting some pretty good shaves the last few times, just one or two tiny nicks, and almost no razor burn. :001_rolle

Today I started out find, nice shower, good prep., Nice Proraso lather applied with my Rooney brush. That was the end of things being nice. I started out and right away, almost as soon as I touched the razor to my cheek, a nice cut. Moving along I got nicks on my chin, upper lip, jaw line, and neck. No matter what I did I couldn't get things right. Enough of this I said, and put the razor away. For the life of me I can't figure what was going on. I thought it was better to stop there before someone mistook me for a suicide bomber. I cleaned up and finished with my 1904 DE.

Are shaves like this normal? Or is it just the nature of the beast. Have any of our better straight shavers had this happen?

I'm not really worried, I'll give it 3 or 4 days rest and then go right back at it. Thanks for any advice. :thumbup1:

Regards,

Paul :tongue_sm

Lol, nevermind, it's a feather. I was going to say you may have rolled the edge stropping. Worst cut my straights given me, I was just setting up for my first pass, wanted to adjust my grip, but for some reason my other hand wasn't free... so I placed the edge 90 degrees to my jaw to hold it still and shifted my grip up.

Yes, it took me a few seconds to comprehend just how retarded that act was.

I've had a couple days like that. I guess my depth perception sucks because the last couple of shaves I went to start my first stroke and nearly seperated the top of my ear from my head. :w00t: Never a good way to start a shave!

Don't get in a hurry and don't rest the blade against your face. learned that one the hard way a couple of days ago.

Its just you being unfamiliar with the blade. Its not uncommon for you to cut yourself in the first few shaves. But after one or two shaves, you shouldn't be cutting yourself unless you make a huge mistake.

A good rule of thumb is to never have a blade on your face that isn't moving. Also, you want to hold the razor firmly enough to have full control, but light enough that if it digs in or snags that your fingers act like a bit of a shock absorber

Here are a couple f things I did wrong. I really agree with the not touching your face while not moving.
