What's new

Not the normal dating questions. Old/Tech oddities

I have two razors that appear unusual (to me at least) as I can't find any info on these particular abnormalities.
The Tech I assume to be a 1973, but it says 2T instead of T2 (because it's made in England?).
The old type (Brownie/pocket edition - no serial no.) also pictured I approximate to 1922 as the blades are marked 421 and 422 which seems about right, but what about the 2 inside the cap?

Anyone any thoughts.

Cheers, $oldtechcomp.jpg

You received two razors of which the OC is correct to the case.

Does the tech cap have any identifier such as "Gillette" acid etched on the top or is it a smooth cap?
The Aluminum tech was primarily manufactured in England but also a few more countries over time as well. It had a very long production run.

This one is German made and has a similar font on the marking identifiers. It could be a German version.

Look here for other techs.

The tech has the gillette name but not the diamond embossed on the cap (Like the S4 in the link you give)
and does have made in England stamped inside. but has 2T rather than T2 beneath.

P.S. After posting the original query I realised I'd still not used the old type so loaded with an astra sp and got a really good quick DFS:thumbup: can't understand why they ever changed. Progress HUH:thumbdown.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Maybe you got one that was not correctly etched in production.

As to the OC the advent of modern thin stainless blades makes it even better in my opinion than when it was new. I like the OCs as well.

Enjoy!

I recently found a razor in the wild with a Czech "Soluna" aluminum handle, and a Tech head identical to the one described by @srm_92000 . The cap has the "Gillette" logo stamped without the surrounding diamond (similar to the S4 set), a guard bar, "MADE IN ENGLAND" on top of the base plate, and "2 T" on the bottom of the base plate. No sign of the original handle.

Given the similarity to the logo on the cap of the 1972 "S4" set, it would seem reasonable to assume that the "2T" marking is a date code corresponding to 2nd quarter/1973, which would have a date stamp of "T2" in US-made razors.

Is there anything in the wiki that would clarify (or dispute) this theory? It seems like an arbitrary difference.
And ... I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with driving on the left. :whistling:
