What's new

Not sure Frog Morton Cellar is for me

So I got my Frog morton cellar today and was very excited. I opened the tin and it smelt like bbq but very strong so I thought ok no big deal. I packed a bowl and lit my pipe to my surprise something very strong hit me like a brick after that it was kinda of light tasting but still very strong compared to my vanilla and butterscotch blend from the local shop. You have to keep in mind im new to pipe smoking did I pick the wrong fm? I'm feeling very sick to my stomach and my head hurts my wife said i looked like i was going to lose my lunch any thoughts are welcomed.

Drink something with sugar in it.

Cavendish and aros in general are pretty light in the nicotine, Virginia burley and latakia are stronger.

Next time eat something before you start smoking, and keep drinking soda or eat some chocolate while smoking.

so FM is most def stronger Wow is the any FM thats an aro?
The FMs are a rather tame tobacco, but then I smoke cigarettes and am used to the nicotine. I have had others that have lit my world up. Follow the advice above, you should get used to it soon enough. Just go slow. It is always possible that FM is just not for you, but I think it is the nicotine that is giving you trouble. Do you inhale? If so, do you inhale every puff? If you do, maybe don't inhale all the time. When I am smoking a pipe I inhale about 60% of the time, but I am a long time smoker.

I smoke cigarettes as well and have never had anything like that happen and i try not to inhale pipe smoke but it was just plain out nasty

I agree with a nicotine punch or reaction. Stick with it and give it a try on a full stomach, it is way different than the aro's you are used to. If after a couple of tries it isn't to your liking, go ahead and cellar it for a while. You may like it after it mellows out some or your palate develops.

burleys and latakia are higher in nicotene burn cooler, virginias are higher sugar content low nicotene, and burn hotter /wetter, frog cellar burns very hot because of the higher Virginia contents, you will get tongue bit if you inhale too much and too hard- also cellar is very wet out of the can

How does Cellar compare to the regular FM? I enjoyed the regular FM very much, and was going to pick up the Cellar. I am fairly new to Pipe Smoking again as well.

I've been at this pipe smoking thing for 15 or so years now and one piece of advice is if you don't like it now don't go getting rid of it. Find a mason jar, put the tobacco in it and just keep it in the cellar. One thing I've found is tastes are constantly evolving and sometimes varieties that didn't strike your fancy initially may well be just what you're after some time down the road.

Also to echo all the other advice, eat or drink something sugary and smoke on a full stomach. You got run over by the N train to Pukesville. It happens, my experiences have been with 1792 flake and Old Joe Krantz. OJK is a cranky old sonofagun if you don't respect him...

To me, the Latakia is less pronounced in Cellar. You occasionally pick up a hint of whiskey, too.

As a new pipe smoker (2 mos), I wasn't impressed with the regular FM. My biggest complaint is that it seems wetter and hard to keep lit. I thoroughly enjoy the dark/light cavendish blend or black cavendish from my tobacco shop and I am content to smoke those most of the time.

Measure out a bowls worth and put it under a desk lamp for 20 minutes or so and then make sure you're not packing too tightly in the bowl and you should be good to go. Suffering through a wet bowl isn't any fun and it doesn't help bring out the flavors as well. Relights are ok and to be expected but doing it constantly is another story...

It could just be the latakia, that stuff is vile. What many don't know is Frog Morton used to be a prince then he smoked latakia and it turned him into a frog. True story.

You're probably just allergic to camel dung, as am I.

My first quality tobacco was SG Squadron Leader- I am used to letting a pipe's worth dry out before smoking. I would rather have a moist tobacco than dry, as it is easier to dry pipe tobacco than rehumify it.
