Nose Hose!!!

Just have to get this out in the open! For years I suffered from a dry, bleeding, stuffed up nose. A few years back I got diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea, and wound up with a CPAP machine. After a few nights of using the machine and having air forcefully blown up my nose and down my throat my sinuses were wrecked even worse! I came across a netti pot @ wal-mart and said what the the heck. I tried it I loved it. Took a few times to get used to the "sensation" of water flowing through one nostril through my sinus cavity and out the other nostril, but not many times. Disgusting Yes, Relief YES!!! I used to keep it hidden in a cabinet but now it sits on my sink next to my DE and brush. Not proudly mind you but there. Just wanted to let any other sinus sufferers out there know there is something that could help, of course as always YMMV!!!

I recently started using one as well. I gotta tell you, that is some weird, wild stuff but it seems to help.

I hear you loud and clear. At 30 years of age, I suffered through most of my 20's with crazy sinus problems (sporadic bleeding, insane congestion, migraine headaches, repeated infections, etc.) and was pretty much at the end of my rope - ENTs, steroids, decongestants and whatnot just weren't working. It was really starting to affect my personal life, my career, etc. In short, I was a mess.

Then I discovered yoga, and shortly thereafter the Neti pot. I stuck with this for a few months and noticed quite a bit of improvement, but the real revelation came when my massage therapist suggested this:

I had to use it a lot at first - twice a day, at low pressure. But eventually I found that I higher pressure worked best. I also started tapering off my usage - presently I use it just once a week or so, more often if I happen to catch a cold. I'm happy to report that I'm sitting here, typing, and breathing clearly/easily. I'm even happier to say that this is now the norm for me.

In short it totally changed my life, and although it's a bit pricey, I highly recommend it. I like to think of it as an ultra-mega-super neti pot. I would definitely buy this thing a hundred times if I had to... Definitely worth considering.

When I had my nose rebuilt a few years back, I was given a attachment for a waterpic tooth brush, to flush out my nose. A little warm salt water and my nose , sinuses, and everything else is clean. Works much better than just pouring water thru.

If you don't have a humidifier on your CPAP, invest in one. It makes a world of difference.

I'd be careful with that advice. The humidifier on his CPAP damn near killed my dad. His Dr. added the humidifier to his 3 days later he had a sinus infection, that started spreading. After a week in the hospital and tons of antibiotics they finally got it cleared up and got rid of the humidifier asap.

OK then, I suggest using a disinfected CPAP humidifier.

Humidity, alone, isn't going to do that, is it?

He used a brand new hose, and tank, and was using distilled water. The Dr. determined that the elevated humidity from the cpap in his sinuses greated the perfect enviornemnt for for a sinus infection to run rampant. He then told him to get rid of the humidifier immediately. 2 years before and 8 years since he has never had a problem.

I guess YMMV applies to medical as well as wet shaving. I suffered through sinus infections, some quite serious, until I got the humidifier. My sinuses were raw from the CPAP and subject to a lot of infections.

All of these solutions are basically salt solutions.

For years, I've been getting the same results by dissolving a teaspoon of table salt into a 16 oz bottle of distilled water. Then I use of those baby nose cleaner things to shoot the stuff into my nasal passage. Total cost: $3.00. and the solution lasts for a month or more.

My Dr told me to use 1 Tbsp Baking Soda, 2 Tbsp pickling/canning salt, and warm water, Or go buy the prepackaged sinus rinse stuff, which is the exact same thing for a whole lot more money. I will have to look around, he even gave me a fancy flyer about it.

I'll have to give it a whirl. I seem to always to have one side either partial or completely stopped up. Went to an ENT and had surgery for a deviated septum, during which I woke up to the surgeon hammering a a chisel shoved up my nose, but that didn't help. I hate having to rely on sinus meds and I try to use antibiotics sparingly.
