NOS Schick Injector Blades

I've really come to like my Schick L1 injector and probably use it most of the time when I shave.

I notice that sellers on eBay occasionally put NOS Schick Injector blades up for sale.

Are these old blades still good to shave with? (some appear to date from the late 60's/early 70's)

Which are the best ones to keep an eye out for? I recently saw some that said "Schick Eversharp with Krona edge" on them. Does anyone know if these are any good - they seem to have been from the late 60's (?)

I have used older DE blades which probably date from the 70s, without any peoblem, so I would hazard a guess that the injectors would be the same. Personally, I am happy with the Pella/AAFES blades, just think the injector is junk.

I have used PAL-injector blades from the 50ties. They are still ok. Also Schick nos, but do not know how old, they were ok too.

I have some CVS blades (re-branded Personnas?) that have a similar cheapo plastic injector case. It's super-fiddly and I sometimes have trouble sliding in a new blade. Partially, that's why I'm curious about the NOS Schicks - presumably the injectors are better quality - back when manufacturers still gave a darn about their products. :wink2:

Keep an eye peeled for the Personna74 injector blades. They're a Tungsten steel stainless blade, manufactured for a few years starting in '70. They are arguably the best blades ever made. The problem is that others also know that, and they also keep a sharp eye on eBay offerings.

I was watching some NOS Schick Injector blades on eBay, but the price went above what I was willing to pay. I may get another bunch if there's an opportunity, but without being sure ahead of time that they'd be shaveworthy, I won't pay much.

I agree about the fiddliness of the CVS packaging, but the blades have given me some great shaves; Injectors are excellent razors.

I only have problems with those cases in my L's. The rest of my injectors don't seem to mind them. You are right, though, the CVS cases are fiddly. I had one come apart before. The plastic base came away from the metal injector in my hand. Under the plastic, if you were interested, is basically the old Schick case reworked to fit on the plastic bit.

The blades to look for would be the Schick Plus Platinums, they are outstanding. You will also see Schick Kronas, and occasionally Super Stainless as well. Any of the NOS Schick are worthwhile, tho I would not pay a ton of $$ for them. And I can vouch for the Personna 74's, they are cream of the crop. Personna made a number of really decent what are now NOS blades, so don't be afraid to try any you run across, especially the ones they made for KMart.

Keep in mind that the NOS Schicks and Personna 74's go for 3-4 times what I paid for a 15-pack of Meijer/ASR (Personna) injectors, $3.99 at a store about a mile down the road.

I've been using them in a Lady Eversharp M20 (K1, same head as a J or L Schick). The injector razor is a bit more maneuverable than a DE and a fun change of pace, but the shaves are not as close or smooth as I can get with my favorite DE blades in a Gillette adjustable. Those DE blades cost about half the price of the Meijer/ASR/Personnas.

on eBay. They were at a decent price - cheaper per blade than the current Chinese Schicks. I've only used one so far and it's good, but not head and shoulders above the Chinese Schicks.

I've heard that the Schick Plus Platinums are the best of the NOS blades. I bid on a couple of small lots on eBay, but the price went higher than I wanted to pay. They ended up going for prices that reflected a little more than a dollar per blade.

Schick sgtarted marking their blade containers with Krona in the early 70s, so anything without that logo would be earlier, probably the equivalent of a Gillette BlueBlade.

I have found the new chinese schicks to be the best injector shave out there. As far as the krona edge, I have used NOS Schick Super Stainless Krona DE's, and they are exceptional, nearly as good as the old gillette spoilers. I can tell you to stay away from the older Schick Injectors that are marked Surgical Stainless Steel, as they shave terribly. They just did not hold up over the years.

I found these some time ago and bought many. They are early 70's vintage and are as sharp now as ever.

They got some negative reviews a few years ago...How do you like yours?

I think for injector blades you are probably right about the Platinums, tho the Schick Super Chromes (red package) are pretty good too. I can get a consistent 5 shaves out of the Platinums, so they tend to be a bit pricey when you look at the per shave cost, but the smoothness makes up for it a bit, I think.
