NOS Razors

Having just started DE shaving last week, but lurking for a month plus  . . . I have developed razor envy.

I see all these amazing shave dens, and all I have is one shelf in the shower caddy and a spot in fogless mirror.

Upon my research here and on ebay, i discovered a marvelous thing called NOS (new old stock). Having very sensitive skin, I would prefer a classic razor if it came NOS. I know this is tough for a lot of the classic DE razors, but I was wondering if NOS razors were available for decent pricing (15-100) for gillette adjustables (the fat boys and 70s/80s models).

Thanks for the feedback.

They pop up around here once in a while. Just a few days ago there was a NOS Gillette from the 80s for like $40.

But I fail to see your connection between having sensitive skin and wanting NOS

The short answer to your question is going to be "no" on slims/fat boys, and "once in a blue moon" on the later adjustables. I'll add that I have no qualms about using a properly barbicided vintage razor after someone else, but to each his own. I wouldn't call it a skin sensitivity issue, though, more of a personal conviction. Good luck in your quest!

I agree, I'm a germ freak but I'm fine using scrubbing bubbles and barbicide on used razors. Its impractical and expensive otherwise. I'd say if you're really that scared just buy a new Merkur and be done with it.

If I wanted a new sanitary never used before razor, I would buy the Merkur Mergress. It has everything I would want in a new razor. Check it out, they are new and many folks are raving about it.:001_smile

never heard of the Merkur Mergress. I do like the idea of the futur.

I just love the way the gillette fatboys look. Its like :w00t::001_tt1::thumbup::a17::clap::ouch1:

NOS is good but maybe that's best left for the collectors to keep them original. You can do just as well by buying one in excellent condition. It will be half the price and will look just as good, and all you have to do is put it in alcohol for a minute or so and it's just as clean as one of the shelf.

What does using a NOS razor have to do with sensitive skin? If you buy and then use a razor that's been used, it's just as sterile as NOS. :001_huh:

A NOS Fatboy on ebay the other week went for about $340, these are the razors all the serious collectors want the fact that they have never been used gives them a far higher value. Like other have suggested if you must have an unused raor go with a current production model like a Merkur.

If you're that picky, buy a new razor.

New razors can have just as many cooties as an old razor. A properly treated razor, even if used for years prior to the cleaning, will be more sanitary than one purchased off a shelf. In fact, it will be much, much more sanitary than the fork you use at your favorite restaurant.

I highly concur with what has been said here, and I feel that NOS sets are for the collectors as they will be very cost prohibitive to obtain and I think it would be a shame to use a razor like that -- I know I couldn't do it.

As for the fear of germs, coming from someone who owns over 140 used razors, if they are properly cleaned and sanitized, there is nothing at all to be concerned with.

NOS razors are mainly bought by collectors and go for very high prices. They buy them sealed and unused and keep them that way. The last NOS fatboy went for ~$350. You could probably get a NOS super adjustable for under $100 though

There's nothing wrong with used old razors, some of them are in almost new condition.
