NOS G1000, Opinions?

This item and a couple of others like it came up on eBay recently. Just wondered what other people think of this as a deal. Although I was somewhat tempted, I firmly suppressed my RAD in this case.

I gather that the G1000 would be a fairly decent shaver, but nothing exceptional. What was a little bit tempting was the NOS factor, but after all, it was just a simple blister pack, and I would have opened it up to shave with it. Are collectors interested in anything this recent? Has anyone shaved with this razor? What were your impressions?

I haven't shaved with one of those, but it looks like a Gillette Knack but with very cheapened construction. The plastic handle looks to be hollow, and hence has no weight at all: this razor would be very head heavy!

I would say, that considering it's very cheap looking construction there are far better vintage Gillette's to be searching for.

IIRC, "G1000" is the name they gave the Knack in the UK. As you said, this is a modernized, plastic version. Probably one of the last they made.

Hello, I purchased the item from the vendor. It was just as described. It was a neat feeling opening a N.O.S. Gillette. It is made in England. It has the shallower head like the post '62 Super Speed and the Slim Adjustable. I tried it with my favorite blade the Lord Platinum. Unfortunately, I got several in grown hairs which is my typical experience with the 60's and 70's Super Speeds. I have a preference for the older 1950's S.S. I will keep it as part of my collection, but it won't be a shaver for me. My advise is if the black plastic handled Super Speeds work for you then go for it, as it is a similar shave.

Yes, that's what tempted me about it, but it wasn't quite enough in my case. Thanks for answering, though. It's good to know that the razor was as advertised, and went to somebody who would appreciate it.

I have a 1975 Super Speed in my growing collection, but prefer the earlier ones. Still, if the G1000 is similar, then that does make it a decent shaver.

I saw one of those late Super Speeds in a NOS blister pack the other day, but the price on it quickly rose above what I would have been willing to pay.

I'm coming to this thread a bit late, but I just acquired one of these razors myself for a very similar price. It doesn't feel awkward or badly balanced but it is slightly head-heavy. I've only got one shave with it under my belt but the G1000 and my Tech feel very similar, although the head on the G1000 is slightly harder to maneuver under my nose. It seems to be a good shaver so far and I think I got fair value for what I paid; I'll probably post a full review in the reviews section once I get more experience with this razor.

Mine is still sealed up in the original pack....I really don't plan on ever opening it...I just think of it as a cool find :)
