North by Northwest shaving gear

Okay most already know about the shaving scene with Cary Grant. I decided to watch it again here after my sister talking about the little minature razor in the film and how she's always wanted to get one. Not to shave with, just the novelty of it mind you. She says she got one even here recently after looking here and looking for the same. Going to have to see it in person sometime to see if it is.

What I'm wondering about is I'd never seen anyone mention the brush! Of course after seeing it I swear it's one of those nano Simpson Wee Scot's! Funny the little guy get's no mentioning. Anyone else notice said brush while watching the film? Wanting a Simpson Wee Scot a bit more now too funny enough...

I'd not noticed the brush.

I thought at first glance it was a travel Tech, but sharper eyes on the board corrected me and said it was indeed a "ladies razor" like a Kewtie.

I have a dinky, lipstick size travel brush that came in a set with a travel Tech. I'd wager the brush Mr. Grant is using in that scene is the same sort of thing.

Right around the 58 minute mark you get a good look. I'm going to try something see if maybe I can snap a pic of it. Wouldn't be too hard to look at the brush. Someone posted a pic of an older nano Wee Scot as they like to call it just recently, and somewhere had a picture of the two compared together. Probably somewhere on my hard drive, but I haven't had use of my computer for many months...

Really wish they would have had a close up shot of the brush as well, but only the razor got said treatment. But the 58 minute 08 second mark is when he first picks up the brush, then 58 min 20 sec mark you'll get a good look at the mini razor. It still appears to be a Simpson Wee Scot, closer to this older model in this picture, and seems to even have the butterscotch color to it, but it could be the lighting giving it that appearance too.

All the same, it's still an awesome scene. Not one most would relate to as much except those like us.

My fiance and I had a good laugh at that brush and razor a few days ago. It's so tiny. Also, what a great film.

Thx for posting the vid
His expression after examining the ladies razor is priceless

Mr. Grant was the champ movie shaver. Great scene in 'Mr. Blandings builds his dream house' where he shaves with a Schick injector and gets bumped around by Myrna Loy & Melvyn Douglas.

I'd forgotten that scene.

Man From U.N.C.L.E. fans consider North by Northwest to be the direct ancestor of the series, for several reasons:

1) Norman Felton, the show's producer, said he wanted to cast a "Cary Grant type" as Napoleon Solo

2) The story features an innocent person, someone not involved in spy or intelligence work, though here it is the main character; in U.N.C.L.E. the innocent was a guest star

3) The light tone mixed with real danger

4) And Leo G. Carroll, U.N.C.L.E.'s Mr. Waverly, portrays a similar spymaster in this movie

Somebody once called "North by Northwest" a series of terrible things that happen to a great suit.

And it is a great suit. That same person wrote, "Cary Grant was a man who knew how to wear clothes."
