Yes.. finally, my first attempt at scales has resulted in... er... results..
and yes, there's plenty I'll do different next time.
...but all in all, since I plan to use it myself and not make a showpiece of it, I'm rather satisfied with this first attempt.
I gotta say.. you guys make this look so much easier than it really is, and my hat's off to ya.

scales are red-oak (natural) w/ 10 coats poly (don't ask )
wedge of aluminum.. just 'cause it felt right at the time
edge still taped to protect it (and me) during the process.
ready for honing
first.. as I brought it home
heavier tarnish and rust than the picture shows.
significant etching
..and now..
chose to remove as little material as possible since I want it to be a shaver, which meant leaving most of the etching and pitting... just cleaned it up and gave it a bit o' polish.
