Non Aftershave Aftershaves

Hello all,

I was wondering how many of you guys are not using and Aftershave, but using another product giving you the same results? My post shave routing is currently Alum, C. Water, Theyer's WH, (recently added) Proraso pre/shave, Splash.
This feels way too much, and I'm thinking of cutting it down to the Alum and WH, except for cold and dry times, when I'll add a moisterizer or a AS balm. I have a rather oily skin, so usually dryness is not my problem...

I'd be glad to read your thought and habits.

Thanks,
Omri

I consider my Thayer's an aftershave. (Thayer's makes a bunch of differing products, so I'm just talking about the "Witch Hazel Astringent" with alcohol; mine is the lemon scented). It's a "witch hazel astringent" but it's not "witch hazel". That is, it has enough other stuff, and particularly the aloe vera, to be something besides just witch hazel. Sometimes I use it, and it alone.

I'll use a generic witch hazel (Target house brand "Up", most recently); followed with an AS splash or ASB. But if I'm using the Thayer's with aloe, that's plenty enough after-shave splash. I have the Lemon scented, which I think smells like a furniture polish. Don't recommend the scent. But I use it because it's good stuff on the skin.

Alum beforehand, rinsed off with cold water, is a possibility for either of the above routines. It depends on how much or little irritation I felt in the shave.

If I really f up my face I'll use a little corn husker's lotion on it to get the initial irritation/redness to a minimum.

Lots of people use hair tonics (eau de Portugal, vitalis etc) as aftershaves.

Yes, I use a non-aftershave aftershave-It's just plain Witch Hazel. I prefer to keep it simple. That said, if I need a balm for whatever reason I bring out the Nivea Sensitive and apply a bit of it on top of the WH.
