Razor: Yintal Bronze V2
Blade: Feather
Brush: ARNO 26mm, G5 synthetic, Classic #12
Soap: Noble Otter - Hamami (sample)
A/S: Twoface Brothers - Original Aftershave Lotion
EdP: Terre d'Hermes - Eau Intense Vetiver

I recently got the Yintal Bronze on the recommendation of @megamac . When I ordered it, I was under the impression that I ordered the razor with the old head (V1) which is a bit more aggressive than the new head (V2). Unfortunately, Yintal made a a mistake and sent me the razor with the V2 head. I contacted them and they told me that they'll check their inventory. Luckily, they did have some V1 heads in stock and sent me the V1 head free of charge; I only needed to cover shipping.

Since I got both heads, it would make only sense to try them out both. I did have an excellent shave with the V1 head before and I would say it's in the medium aggressive range, the V2 is definitely much milder as I discovered today. However, the milder V2 doesn't detract from the shave quality one bit. In fact, matching it with a Feather (2nd use) was nothing short of amazing. BBS in two passes WTG with ATG cleanup. Frankly, I could have stopped after the first pass, but I was having so much fun. I find that a shallow angle works quite well with this razor for me.

There is actually another reason I wanted to get this razor. This razor costs USD 8 and the handle is brass, which makes it a perfect testing tool for refining my polishing skills. In fact, I polished this razor last week using Dursol Shine. I used a soft cloth for the heads and the handle first and followed that up with soft toothbrush for the handle knurling. The heads are definitely "shinier", but that's because they aren't pure brass. The Dursol worked quite well on the handle as well. I figured if the polishing would fail, it would be easy to just get a new razor. It did work out quite well though. The polish did remove much less plating than that time I polished the all brass DSC V92.

This is a very good razor, both heads are great performers, the V2 probably benefits from an excellent blade. But at USD 8 for the razor alone (USD 12 for the razor with stand and cheap leather pouch) don't expect manufacturing excellence. I do have some chipping at the edges of the V2 cap, but it doesn't detract from the shaving experience, it's just an aesthetic issue. The handle is a bit heavy for the much lighter head, and some might find it too long. But I never had any issue navigating the razor.

If you have already a few items in your Single's Day shopping cart at AE, I highly recommend to add this razor and maybe a few other items from Yintal to your cart (maybe a TTO, or some single razor stands). It won't break the bank, though prices on AE will be a bit higher, and you'll be positively surprised on how good those razors are.

Very many apologies for the length of this post.

Violet Ann Dodge was born into poverty in West London in 1882, her father a labourer and her mother a washerwoman. After entering service as a scullery maid, at 21 she married Harry Nathan, a civil engineer 13 years her senior and began making cosmetics in her kitchen. Her invention of the first "brushless shave cream", ShaveX, led to the founding of ShaveX Zee-Kol in Holloway, London, which she ran with noted ruthlessness and attention to detail. It made Violet Nathan one of the wealthiest female entrepreneurs in Britain, and she took a particular interest in the publicity and marketing of her highly successful product.

After her husband's death in 1927, she remarried a Belgian, Jean Van der Elst, who as well as being employed as a manager at ShaveX, was also an artist and composer. It was after her second husband's untimely early death in 1934 that Violet Van der Elst dedicated herself to one of her late husband's social interests, the abolition of the death penalty. She ran a notable campaign of direct action, using her advertising experience to create highly visible stunts and protests to raise publicity, as well as spending considerable amounts of her own fortune. She unsuccessfully stood for parliament a number of times on a platform of abolition.

In the late 1930s, after seeing a newspaper advertisement, she bought, saved and restored Harlaxton Manor in Lincolnshire, a Victorian country house built in the Elizabethan and Jacobean styles, from where as well as directing her campaign she also pursued an interest in the occult, writing several collections of horror stories. When the manor was requisitioned by the RAF in WWII she moved to her flat in Knightsbridge, where she stayed throughout the blitz, reportedly patrolling the neighbourhood and helping to put out incendiaries.

She continued her remarkable efforts for the abolition of capital punishment after the war, and was prominent in the campaign against the hanging of Ruth Ellis, who proved to be the last woman to be hanged in Britain. These efforts throughout the 1950s and into the early 1960s, together with a notable predilection for litigation, diminished much of her fortune and she was far from wealthy when she finally died in 1966 in a private mental asylum in East Sussex at the age of 84. The death penalty had been abolished in Britain just one year earlier.

And so I suppose I should mention the actual razor! They were sold as 'complete outfits' together with ShaveX shave cream and ShaveX own-brand blades from around the mid-1920s to the mid-1930s. It's an impressively solid, well made, plated all-brass razor weighing 61g that feels especially good in the hand. Despite looking like it shouldn't really work at all, it actually provides a remarkably good shave. As long as you ride the cap - and it will provide good audible feedback to let you know you have the right angle - the shave will at once be both mild, and yet impressively effective. Amazingly one of the best razors I own.

When I first aquired this razor, I stuck a Feather in it and set it at 7 and proceeded to cover my face in nicks and a fairly nasty cut near my Adam’s apple. I wasn’t impressed and didn’t use it again for ages.
Went back to it a few months ago and tried the yellow pack Gillette blade that I’d been enjoying in various vintage razors with some great results…it’s a smooth , mild ish blade but suits my skin type very well it seems. Loaded into the classic 195 and had one of the best shaves I’ve ever had.
Today was the same …..incredible results set on 8 WTG and 6 ATG. Fantastic synergy with this blade…love this razor. It’s an absolute icon and a joy to use.
