What's new

No one told me this could happen

I have been shaving for several months now and I did something this morning that I have never done. I frequently miss the back of my jaw just under my ear, don't know why, so I try to make a conscious effort to get that spot. Well, I got it this morning all right. While putting the razor back there to shave it, I must have accidentally ran the razor sideways instead of up and down. It took me forever to get it to stop bleeding. The picture is after I had finished shaving and most of the blood had been wiped away. If I can do this to myself with a "safety" razor, I better never touch a straight.....I might cut my throat!!! And to think that Friday is my quick shave, yikes!!!!

I know this may come as a shock

But, you can do the same thing with a gillette mach 3 , except it's 3 little lines,

any time you slice away at your face it's not a good idea,

always move in the direction parallel to the edge of the blade

Ugh... The worst with cuts like that is to stop the bleeding. I use Alun soap, pretty effective with cold water.

You learn as long as you live I guess, no more sideways cutting for you;)

I sliced my neck behind my ear this morning also. I kinda fely it dig in and I was able to pull away before it gor bad. Hey go slow homey so that wont happen.

I find that kind of thing happening when placing the blade. A little misjudgment of the distance between the blade and the target can cause you to strike a glancing blow and there you have it!

This is more likely when anything unfamiliar is going on at the same time. In your case, apparently, putting the blade in an unfamiliar (as in "frequently miss[ed]") place.

The under-ear jawline nicks are a pretty standard part of my shave ... they're generally not that big, but they happen (I've got a beard in the way and can't see what I'm doing back there). Good thing is, it's not as visible as a chin slice:wink:

I smacked my slant into the side of my nostril and got a big cut.
My nose is kissably smooth, however.

I've had a similar slice on my chin with a straight a couple of weeks ago. It actually went away within 4 days.

Look at the bright side: if anybody asks, you can tell them you're part fish

Yup. I know someone who did it with an Atra. I was really surprised to see it, because he was really bleeding pretty bad

Yeah, I shave my head also. That area behind the ears seems especially difficult for me too. If I cut myself, it's usually there! It must be a difficult angle or something.

One thing that seems to help me is using a Schick Injectable razor. I'm very new to one of those. You can get one pretty cheap if you look around. The blades can be had on-line relatively cheap. I get a close shave, and I find the small razor head a breeze to maneuver with!

moooooahaahahaha the razor fights back.Whew for a second there I thought I had the only disgruntled razor.beings where it's at I'm sure it didn't feel too awesome.Let's hope it heals up before you look like grizzly adams.

Just did the same thing with my shavette across my moustache area and my goodness the blood. Still holding a tissue with pressure against it.

Finished the shave though. I will press on.
