What's new

No more SE blades at Walgreens

Went in to Walgreens to pick up a pack of blades and there were none. There was a gal re-doing the shave section with new stock. I think Walgreens must have ended their contract with Personna because all their store brand razors and blades now say made in Korea. I checked a couple other stores close by and it's the same thing there.

Curse you, misguided wheels of progress!!!!!:a32:

I just saw some packs of GEMs here in Atlanta a couple days ago and they still show up on the Walgreen's website:

Considering that a 10 pack costs less . Import from the uk, its not a big loss.
They are there to attract the folks who have been buying them for decades, not us SE freaks.
I once asked thw lady at rite aid "who buys these?", her answer was "old folks,REALLY old folks"

Box cutter blades are these, or at least what I consider box cutter blades( I call them utility knife blades)

I consider SE blades as window scraper blades:thumbup1:

I disagree.

your photo is of a utility knife blade. While it can, and often is, use to cut cardboard, a true box cutter uses a single edge razor blade.

Obviously you've never worked in a grocery store :001_smile

This is a box cutter

Nope, I have however been a carpenter for the past 8 years and use a utility knife daily, and always carry a 50 pack of blades in my pouch, I believe they both are called a "box cutter" I've just never seen one of those stamped steel units before, looks nifty albeit a little dangerous

Utility knives are a rather new invention.

Box cutters have been around as long as SE blades have been around (over a century now)

They work a lot faster at opening boxes than a utility knife. Slap the back against your leg and it is open, using your thumb as a guide on the top of the box zip it around the box top, slap the front against the side of the box and the blade is put away.

About 18 months ago I found some Gem stainless blades in the 10 pack dispensers on line at Chi-Chester pharmacy in Macon, Ga, my wife's home town for like $2.50 per pack. I bought their entire stock. A good source is Ted Pella, price is good on the bulk pack of 100, although his shipping is high. He sells a lot of precision medical stuff, so everything goes out fex ex, signature required.

Well I hope I'm wrong. I've just noticed that all the Walgreens that I've been able to check so far in my area plus another one 200 miles from me have redone their shaving sections and seem to have booted their Personna products. Maybe it's just a regional thing. Oh well, I was just about to place an order with Connaught for some SEs anyway.

does anyone have an idea of what Ted Pella's shipping is on their 200 box of ptfe coated SE blades (to Arizona)?

Check connaught shaving. They have the best price (incl shipping). Same as 'pella', namely, GEM stainless coated 62-0165.
