What's new

No Deal Here!

I was watching a Nobility Sterilized Brush new in Box on eBay. The auction closed with no bidders and I missed the end of the auction. I emailed the seller through eBay to let them no I was interested in the brush and see if they would part with it via paypal. They re-listed the brush with a buy it know price two dollars more than the minimum bid it went unsold for and also jacked the shipping up. I emailed them back and thanked them for jacking the price letting them know I was no longer interested.

That is definitely an incident of capitalist asshattery. Aren't you glad you didn't give them your money?

Well, remember that the BuyItNow price is always higher than the starting bid or reserve. Often it is a lot higher, so $2 more is not asking a lot.

Still, you could always bid on the brush instead of Buying it New. Since there were no bids the first time around, there probably won't be any competition this time, either.

But I agree, the seller should have just taken you up on your offer to buy it after the auction ended, instead of re-listing it.

Then again, eBay has some rules in place to prevent buyers and sellers from doing business directly, rather than going through the auction process. Perhaps the seller was trying to protect his status by not flaunting eBay's established system.

I don't understand the problem.

Me either.

Do you have a link to the auction?

she had the brush on eBay for a starting bid of 9 bucks. The auction ended with no bidders. I offered to buy the brush for 9 bucks from her through paypal. That would have saved her listing fees and commissions. She put it back on the bay for 9 dollars starting bid and a buy it now of 12.
Not only that but she jacked the shipping up also. Had she put the buy it now price at 9 dollars I might have bought it. Any way she thought she had me jacked at 12. Problem is I wasn't willing to pay more than 9 buck for it to begin with had I bid on it when it was first listed.

What you propose is against ebay rules. She may simply have ignored you for that reason alone.

Be glad she didn't report you, you could have had your account suspended or removed.

"Capitalist Asshattery?" Interesting evaluation. The seller may have been an "asshatter", whatever that might be, but this hobby that we engage in depends on being able to freely trade with oneanother without government intervention. That's what Capitalism is my friend. Someone who doesn't fairly meet market conditions, (ie Mr. Asshatter), doesn't succeed for very long. We ensure that by not buying from him.

Wasn't Asshatter one of the characters in Alice in Wonderland?

She did nothing wrong but try to milk eBay for what it is worth. You actually broke eBay's rules by offering to purchase an eBay item without bidding on it.

I'm the guy that actually bought that brush. I thought it would compliment my fathers redtip nicely, and I'm going to give it to him for Christmas if the knot is nice. I didn't know anything about a previous listing but I thought $12 dollars was a good price and the shipping wasn't too far out of line from other sellers that have to cross international boarders for shipping. Also it is an instant ban from eBay to sell an auctioned item off eBay by going around the bid process. If you liked the brush as much as I did why didn't you just bid the first time around.
BTW shipping was $6 something from Canada.

here's some pics so we know what we're talking about.

I'm not Bellyaching so much as one might think. I guess maybe? I am if she was willing to sell the brush for minimum bid I was offering to give her minimum bid, that's the price point I decided to pay for it. 9.00 bucks?
As far as vilolating eBay policies? I checked eBays policy on outside buying. Since the auction was closed and had not been relisted I am only guilty contacting a member. Had the deal gone through we would only been risking ripping each other off that's why I suggested using paypal.
I'm not sure eBay will suspend one's account for that.
Well let me see why I didn't bid cause I'm a dumas?
My daughter was at a Volleyball tournament while the other was Cheering and I don't have internet on my phone?
I forgot the auction was ending?
One time at band camp?

Enough said
