What's new

Nivea Active 3

I just saw a commercial for this new miracle wonder product. It's from Nivea and is called Active 3. It is touted as a shampoo, body wash and shave cream. I don't believe it is anything that I will be adding to my rotation anytime soon, but it did catch my curiosity....for a minute anyway.

I dunno, doubt I will try it, even if it claims to do all 3 for the price of one. Kind of like trying to use Col Conks for shaving, showering and shampooing, but what do I know...

I tend to stay away from the "jack of all trades, master of none" types of products. Shaving requires a different sort of lather than can ordinarily be produced by either soap or shampoo, so I would be skeptical of the efficacy of this part of the grooming triumvirate. Dr. Bronner's liquid soap is the same concept, and I have read less than stellar reviews of the shaving aspect of it.

you can use williams mug soap for all 3 if you really want. there are some other soaps out there that claim to do all 3 (grandpa's pine tar for example). it'll probably work for some.

Okay... I'm going to take one for the team, and try it tomorrow.

I'm going dove hunting on the 11th, and needed some kind of travel soap and shampoo, and figured I'd get the Active 3 and try it out for shaving- it wasn't any more expensive than the Dial or Old Spice hair/body washes.

I'll come back and let y'all know how it does.

I think it's impossible to be good at all three tasks. That means it will be mediocre, at best, and ultimately fail at all three. How lazy are we that we can't use soap, shampoo, and shaving soap? What's next, Nivea 5: Soap, shampoo, shaving soap, toothpaste, and breakfast cereal all-in-one?

Yum chocolate mouse shaving soap/cereal! :chef:

There is already a thread discussing shaving with peanut butter. I hope your suggestion does not start a new thread about shaving with chocolate mousse.

Darn it, now I want some chocolate mousse.:tongue_sm

You know, it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected.

Razor: (Gem G-Bar with a Ted Pella blade used for one shave)

The product is a thick, pearly light blue liquid, which is pretty much what I'd have expected for a shampoo/body wash combination.

When I put it on my face (2 day beard) with my fingers (as per the bottle), it lathered up adequately, although not spectacularly.

The lather was remarkably slick- slicker than almost any of the high-end creams or soaps. I attribute this to the detergents and other synthetic ingredients.

There wasn't much in the way of cushion though; I felt like I was constantly on the edge of scraping myself raw.

It rinsed off pretty well, and didn't dry my face out at all. My only real gripe was that when lathered up, it was kind of runny, and I had rivulets of it down in my chest hair, which necessitated a second rinsing of that area.

The real surprise came a little later, when I put on my Proraso splash- no burn! (?) I was expecting it to burn like a MF, but nothing of the kind occurred- all I felt was mentholated goodness.

Verdict: While I wouldn't recommend this for every day use, I think it's an absolutely serviceable product; you could do worse if you had to pack light, or you only had a grocery store to get your products from in a pinch.
