Night Shaving

I have been using a double edge razor for less than a month. During this time, using the Merkur 1904 and then the Edwin Jagger 89 I have never cut myself. I got some razor burn from one shave; realizing this was due to using insufficient lather.

On Sunday, I decided on a night shave, after seeing a post here. I had last shaved last on Friday to rest my beard. How clean shaven do you need to be to demolish a bathroom. I shaved on Sunday night, with my usual routine, wash the face with some Nivea cool gel, throw warm water on the face, get the brush wet, smooth some Proraso cream on my face and lather it with a wet brush. Then I used a TREET blade. The shaving was wonderful. I even got a smooth shave on my chin, which I never achieved with my prior Fusion multi-blade, and even with double edge, until now. I've broken through the stubble barrier to achieve a world class, glass smooth shave.

Next shave is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Being retired I shave pretty much any time of day or night.

As soon as I feel any stubble I am off to shave, regardless of the time.

This Thread entitled "How many of you shave at night for more healing time"? should be very interesting and informative;

In the past, with my electric, I've always been a morning shaver. I predict, with the DE setup, I will be moving to evenings to allow myself a little extra time.

Being new-ish to DE shaving, I shave at nights instead during the work week just so I am not faced with a never-ending weeper as I try and dash out the door. During the weekend, I don't care as much unless I have early morning plans.

I do prefer the night shave overall. I feel less rushed, and it is a relaxing activity just before bed. Just make sure to select a soap/cream and AS that isn't geared toward the early morning shavers. I like a nice, calming lavender scent.

Maybe that is what I should do. For I too am a little tender after a morning shave. It takes awhile to heal and feel better. I too am new to DE shaving but there is no way that I am going back to electric shaving. I am also retired now so it does not matter how much time it takes to get the shave done. Which is great but I am probably going to far with the shave therefore the irritation. But I love the BBS. Also my face is finally getting used to the DE shaving which is almost 2 months for me. :D

I pretty much only shave at night for a few reasons:

1- I like the fact that i'm doing it on my time and not feeling rushed
2- I feel that it gives my neck some extra time to "heal" before the next day and I am less prone to neck irritation when wearing a collared shirt.
3- I find that it relaxes me and is a nice way to end the evening.
4- the wife likes the added aroma therapy at night in most cases.

I shave at night before bed:
1. It gives me time (usually) to complete my straight razor shave followed by a DE clean up without interuption by other household members,
2. I can keep focused without being rushed, a good idea when shaving with a straight razor,
3. It gives me a good face/face piece seal for my BiPAP machine mask,
4. I am more relaxed and sleep better,
5. The shave feels good for about 12 hours and remains SAS good until after I complete my work day.

If I have to rush and leave for something critical immediately after, feel tired, or feel ill, I will use a DE.

My work schedule is extremely flexible so I can shave leisurely in the morning but I prefer night shaving simply that I find doing so relaxing and symbolic of an ending of a day for me. I usually shave just before I go to bed and it sure is nice to have bbs face to lay down onto.

For more than 40 years, I shaved at night, showered in the morning. Now that I'm retired I have a leisurely early to mid afternoon shave.

I have two boys that are a handful, and they are always awake pretty early, so night shaves work for me. Not to mention I'm still a n00b, so it takes a long time to shave. Night shaves feel more relaxing and I can focus better to get a better shave.

Started shaving at night years ago when working outside in the hot Texas sun it gave neck time to heal or beard to grow. Now just shave at night out of habit and it relaxes me.
