Nickel News

We were discussing the rarity of the nickel plated American Gillette New razors in a BST ad thread and I thought it might be better served here. If any of you have an American made New with the case we would love to see them. Here is a picture of one I found online in the Red and Black case, but that really doesn't prove anything since Gillette sold the Red and Black sets with a number of different razors.

Only the long handled ones? I have seen them in Nickle in Norfolk sets, and I have seen thin and thick with the regular handles. I don't have either of those.

I'd never turn down any razor porn, Rodd. But, we were really trying to figure out the proper, or valid, cases for the regular bar handle nickel News. I feel good about the Red and Black being one of them, but there had to be others.

Guido, As always those NEW spcimens of yours are fantastic!

I just picked up an English Silver NEW off the Bay for $28 shipped. I was hoping to get this one really low but some late inning bids drove the price up. The US NEW"s in nickel are rare but English NEW's in nickel are fairly common.

Unfortunately, Dave, those News are not mine, but come from the collector's encyclopedia. And yes, British nickel News are much more common than American ones, but since the British Gillettes on a whole are more scarce than American Gillette in general they still demand a fairly high price as compared to your typical gold plated New.

I kick myself on a regular basis for not buying these from JBHoren 2 years ago. I'm fairly certain they would not last 3 days on the BST if offered now.
