Next razor ... Open comb, suggestions?

Hello all,

I currently use a gillette slim and a merkur 38c. I want to try an open comb but i am having difficulties finding a gillette new. I also dont know if i should do a short or long comb and what the difference is? Any help, info, recommendations would be great. Thanks!

I prefer the Long Comb New, seems to me to be a smooth performer and fairly efficient without being too aggressive.

Merkur OCs are nice razors- fairly mild for OC razors. The 12C is like your 38C in size.

I would say that's good advice. I have the 1904 OC that I like; but that's a bit different from the razors you are using now.

Not really looking for a "mild" shaver. I shave with my slim on 8 and 7. I have such thick hair on my face. Any other suggestions?

In that case I have two recommendations; The Muhle R41; extremely aggressive. Also, a Gillette Old Type. I would say an old type compares to a Slim set to 7 1/2.

Both short and long comb NEW's are in my rotation, but I find the short combs to be a bit more aggressive and less smoother than the long comb.
