What's new

Next Blade

So I bought a TI Le Grelot about a month ago from another BB user and am in love with it! I like the weight. Kinda reminds me of wearing an expensive watch...

Anyway, I'm looking to pickup a new blade. I currently own a Dovo Special, a vintage sheffield, and my Le Grelot. Not sure what to get next!?

You've tried German, British & French. Time to step it up & go for a Swede :thumbup1: Heljestrand, E.A Berg, Jernbolaget or Klas Törnblom for example.

What they said!

Then there's the size... 4/8 - 5/8 - 6/8 - 7/8...

The tip... French, Barber notch, round, square, spike, Spanish...

Hollow, wedge, frameback...

Decisions, decisions...

Hi,

+1 on the Swedes; my Heljestrand, Stille & Rex razors shave beautifully :001_smile

Have fun !

Best regards

Russ

You could try doing what I want to do, get a good representative of a razor from each major manufacturing centre, so that's a German, English, American, French, Spanish, Swedish... and then ending it all with a Chinese and a Pakistani for fun :biggrin1:

Yeah, you'll want to collect razors from all of the big "S" locations:

Sheffield
Solingen
Sweden
Spain
Shanghai.....

Wow! Thems a lot of razors to think about. I have been looking at the Kamisori, but I'm a little frightened by the look. You ever see these guys work these things on monk's heads with only water??? Scary sharp!!!

Can I have more recommendations for the swedish straights? I've seen berg around here, but not too much else.

Thanks guys!

Might want to re-read the thread and look for the only guy who actually is in Sweden - he pretty much hit the nail on the head.:thumbup1:

There are also a number of razors made elsewhere but made of Swedish steel that might be of interest.

What you really need is a Filarmonica, I mean er a filly, a really over priced blade thats really 'in' right now. Please excuse my sarcasm but there are a ton of great vintage and new razors to choose from. You might want to pick something that's different in grind or had some extra metalwork or fancy scales as well just to mix it up a bit.

I didn't even realize that he was swedish! haha! Thanks for the heads up!

+1. The Swedes are nice razors and I found them to be very consistent in their performance. I prefer English or American, but the Swedish blades are certainly equal in my mind!

Can you recommend a good English blade. The vintage Sheffield I have feels really light. The blade doesn't glide through hair like my le grelot. I bought it from vintageblades, so there's no question about sharpness. I think it's just not suited for me.

W & B, Wostenholm, Rodgers, Reynolds the list goes on and on. In terms of vintage Sheffields, Solingens, Estiltunas....toss a dart and you're very likely to hit a winner.
