What's new

Newcastle Brown Ale.

Hi lads,
Geordie Sam here,
just thought I would let you Yanks know, you havn't lived till you've followed through after TEN pints of dog (dog is the Geordie name for Newcastle Brown Ale)
You can keep your Budweiser "cooking lager", drink MAN stuff instead.
Now, form an orderly queue.
Geordie Sam.
Howay the lads.

Not a huge brown ale fan, but I definitely enjoy a pint of "dog" from time to time. And here is one yank that hates budweiser, coors, or the like. Trust me most self-respecting beer drinkers on this side of the pond do not particularly enjoy those types of beers..if one can even call them that. cheers.

I like the occasional Newcastle, but ten pints is a bit over my limit.

However, I'd rather be sober forever than drink Bud or Coors or any watery American beer. Fortunately, there are many fantastic small breweries in the US that make beer every bit as good as anything I had in England.

American beer and British food are two things that suffer an unfair reputation for being awful. I've had good and bad of both.

Nick

Newcastle brown? Fizzy pasteurised stuff. I laugh at this.

If you can't stand a spoon up in the dregs of your pint, it doesn't count as real beer....

If there's nothing better in the pub then I'll drink it, but I wouldn't have a bottle over something like Speckled Hen

Newcastle is a step up from a quaffing beer like Bass, but it's no pint o' heavy. Gimme a Belhaven any day. I slightly prefer Old Speckled Hen.

However, if you can get through 10 pints of scrumpy then we can talk.

Hi lads,
Geordie Sam here again,
nice to see our pals over the water can take a bit of **** taking (can I say that here?) well done Yanks.

I walked the dog last night. I don't enjoy hoppy beers or the whole idea of breweries adding tons of hops to a beer and thinking it's something special. Newcastle in right in my wheelhouse.

Sidenote: Bass has a bunch of prototype beers being tested, who ever thought Bass would make a Pilsner?

No news on Newcastle Winter Ale, and I LIVE in Newcastle, is it some type of fancy brew we ship over the water to you Yanks.

Hey there, my mum is from Gateshead and we now live in El Paso, TX (my mum made it the round about way through Canada first) and I have been drinking the Newcastle Brown Ale lately. The next one will be a toast to Newcastle!

I also used to love Newcastle, until I found other BAs suited me better. But Browns, Pales and IPAs tend to round out my favorites. Welcome Geordie

I hope you can understand your Mums accent, most people from England have trouble understanding the Geordie accent, let alone Americans.
Tell her Newcastle has changed in many ways, have a look at the Millenium bridge on Wikipedia, it's just 500 yards down river from the Tyne bridge, if your mum hasn't seen it, it's something to behold. Also check it out on You Tube.
I come from the Walker area of Newcastle, if she can remember it she'll know it's pretty tough, it's where the shipyards used to be, before Thatcher closed them down.
Ask your mum if she remembers pease pudding, and stottie cakes.
