Newbie question : Rubbing face with stick vs. rubbing face with puck or bar

Hello ,

As an uneducated newbie to DE shaving , instead of using a bowl I have been creating lather by rubbing a puck of soap a little on face then using brush.

How does this method compare to using a shaving stick of soap ?
The puck is hard like a stick, only the shape seems different.

Is there any advantage to rubbing a stick on face rather than a puck or bar , or vice versa ?

A 1.5 ounce stick of Valobra (which I have not tried yet) is about US$ 10 , whereas a 2.75 ounce puck of Van Der Hagen is less than US$ 2 . Given the price difference , is the stick experience available by using a two dollar puck instead of a ten dollar stick ?

Sure, you can do that if you want to. Soap is soap whether it's shaped into a puck or into a stick. It's just easier to hold on to a shave stick than a puck and they're easier to travel with.

+1 Different soaps will have different textures, with some of the triple milled soaps being very hard, where others may be much softer. But as long as you can get it to "stick" to your whiskers, no reason you can't do this.
