NEWB: What does one need to shave with a Straight

I was wondering besides just haveing the Straight one does one need to shave . Whats the technique of shaveing with straight. Do you use the same shaveing cream as you would with the new razor? ..... What gets a closer shave a DE or a Straight?

You shave with a straight to remove hair from your face. :w00t:

Technique is not something you will find in this thread, however, there is tones of info here, on other forums and YouTube.

Same shaving creams and soaps as DE.

I feel like I get a closer shave with a straight. It certainly more comfortable. I do use both interchangeably as I enjoy shaving with DE, SE and straight.

The best thing to do, to start, is to check out the newb guide to straight razor shaving:

That'll get you started in the right direction, give you an idea of what you need, how things are done, etc. I found that it answered most of my beginner questions, and the ones it didn't the kind folks around here were happy to give specifics on.

Good luck!

Most people who use straights, don't use shaving cream out of a can. Most use soap or cream with a brush. At minimum, you'll need a shave ready razor and a strop.

you need a shave ready straight and a strop (later you will want a pasted strop or a hone, but dont worry about that for now)

you just a brush and soap/cream as demonstrated elsewhere

I find you get a much better and closer shave with a straight

+1. Remember that the initial set up for str8 shaving can be expensive.
