New Wostenholm

Thought I'd post my latest acquisition as well: A 13/16" Geo. Wostenholm I-XL full hollow with spike point. This thing was made at the Rockingham Works and dates to between 1826, when Wostenholm was granted the I-XL trademank, and 1847, when they moved to the Washington Works. Scales are not original. Minimal hone wear it seems.

I really like the lines if this razor. I now know that I can hone it up pretty well - we'll see if I can buff it up and replace the scales. Any suggestions as to what to do with this thang :)a48:....) appreciated.

I quite like the original patina on vintage razors. My advise would be to get it honed and use it. I'm using a Wostenholm Pipe razor this week and it puts many big money razors to shame in shaving ability.

Good pick up.

Nice score. It looks like it will clean up well. I'd consider seeing about having some bone scales made to replace the original.
Sounds like a winner. Something natural for an old blade. Maybe even a slightly transluscent horn?...

I agree about the patina. I'm not looking for a spit-shine, mirror polish on this one. I went through a sanding/steel wool progression last night and I may well just quit there.

If you want suggestions on what to do with it, I can PM you my address :D
I will...uh... get back to you on that...:hand::rolleyes::a38:

You want suggestions? Give it to me. I love wostenholms and that one is simply gorgeous.

Buff it, hone it, love it. But I like 'em shiny

I don't know - cleans up pretty well, but I don't think I'm looking for a museum piece. I'll have another go at it and then hone it up, I think.

That looks like a great blade. I'd sand the scales and buff them, too. Or rescale the razor, because those dirty scales take away from some of the beauty IMO.
