New Tony Miller Strop!

Just got my Tony Miller strop in the mail. It is a beauty. The picture doesn't really do it justice. The smaller piece next to it is the practice strop. I've already done a few strokes on it.

Thanks Tony, I love it. Quick service, too.

Tony does make a stellar product. Give it a rub with the palm of your hand a few times to warm it up before stroping. :thumbup1: Enjoy!

That is interesting. Not sure how I like the new black.

Btw, I suggest you stop using the TM right now! Continued use will cause you to look at that other strop, realize its the same mounting hardware, send an email to Tony, confess your sins, beg his forgiveness, and kindly ask him to sell you a replacement horse hide and linen piece........ :whistling:

 I love some good ol horsebutt as well.

Speaking of horse butts…
The black trim used to be standard on the horsehide strops and optiuonal on the latigo. I have a few guys who still ask for the black.
When I sold out on all my latigo a week or so ago I had to use black as standard for now. Next year I may go back to black or burgundy as options instead of standard trim.

I myself prefer black on horsehide, burgundy on latigo. I did a few batches for John Crowley's Shaving Shop one year with just the handles in black and they looked really sharp, the end caps matched the strop body on those.

You know, I was looking at that already.:001_tongu

Nice looking TM strop. If my foray into straights becomes a way of life, rather than just an excursion, I'm going to invest in one too.

I bet if you manage to not nick that TM you can sell it for what you paid for it. :wink2:

Ie, if you find SR is not for you, you can always unload that strop and get your money back because Tony's always out of stock.

So many jokes, so little time...

I've decided I'm picking one of these strops up after the holidays. My Filly has been great, but I'm ready for an upgrade. I don't mind the black at all, either.

You won't be sorry. Get the practice strop. It's a deal at $7.50.

I can not seem to find this for sale on his website? I thought it only comes as a extra gift if you buy one of the more expensive strops?

I just bought my first razor and now I am looking for the first strop. I know the Tony Miller is the best. Filly is good and 20$ does Miller have anything to compete against this or if you can get the 7.5$ is it as good?

Thanks guys.

It was an option in the drop down menu when I was selecting the strop I wanted. Other options were D-rings, what kind of cloth/linen, etc. I can't answer your questions about the Filly but I will say I love my new strop.

The 'practice strops' are actually second-quality versions of his other strops that he sells as an accessory when you buy a first-quality strop; they cannot be purchased separately.

The Filly is a fine first strop, and for $20 is a tough value to beat anywhere. I've had one for about 9 months and it has been good to learn on a strop that wouldn't break the bank to replace if something went awry. I say get one, practice, and save up for a year before picking up a TM Artisan.

I found a workable vintage strop in an antique shop for $15 and have been happy with it so far. Someday, when I have another job, I'll look at getting a new strop. Someday... Someday...
