What's new

New to the world of DE Shaving

Hey all my name is Mark, I was referred here by someone from kitchenknifeforums.com. I am a knife junkie by heart haha...But I wanted to switch over maybe to this DE thing...I am just getting really tired of buying new razor blades and handles because they are so darn expensive and are not even that great...I cannot grow a lot of facial hair at all really...I can get away with shaving every 2 days or less...but for school have to be clean shaven (culinary school...So if anyone can lead me in the right direction/help me out it would be greatly appreciated THANKS MARK

Nice to see you, many of other kitchen knife junkies around here including myself. Did you get a DE set up yet?

No that is what I am looking for help with I don't know what to get or anything really pretty much seems just like kitchen knives there are so many options

Welcome Mark. I suggest you spend a little time reading the ShaveWIKI forum of this site to start your learning process. You can post your specific questions for member response/suggestions.

Welcome Mark!

I'm too new to know which questions to ask. I did find Lee @ leesrazors.com helpful when I first started.

Is there anywhere or anyone I can get in touch with that can help me out with a trial or sample package to see if I like it or what not?

Welcome aboard. The founder of KKF is a member here, and we have plenty of knife threads to peruse.

You cannot post on BST until you have been here for 45 days and have posted 50 times. You can buy, but you can't post - check your PMs.

Welcome Mark. I'm fairly new around here to. Good idea asking about a starter kit. I had already bought one piecemail by the time I found B&B, but the folks around here are very helpful.

One thing I will stress to you: watch the videos and read the how-tos before you try to use a DE. It's not like using a modern cartridge razor.

Welcome Mark. I first spent a couple of days reading what others were sharing. Ask all the questions you have, you have so many friendly knowledgeable folks here! Happy shaving..

Welcome Mark. Since you said your facial hair doesn't grow that much, I would recommend a mild shaver like the merkur 180 or an Edwin Jagger 89 to start with.

Just food for thought.

You can't go wrong with the $18 Feather Popular from Amazon (or you can buy it at west coast shaving and bundle a blade sampler and some cream). The Popular is mild, twist open, aligns the blade perfectly every time, and it has a long handle which is helpful when you're starting out.

For a brush the VDH brush from Wal-mart seems to work perfectly fine.

Welcome, and don't forget to check out some of the YouTube videos by Mantic59 and Geofatboy.
