What's new

New to the forum/SR Shaving :)

Hello all,

I'm new to this method of shaving and razor care. I received a Thiers-Issard kit which contains a chalk roll of paste & a paddle strop with one black fuzzy side and one tan smooth side. I've been having some trouble online finding any consistent info on to use these items. Does anyone know of a current thread link or have any insights for me? Is it black side first then tan or opposite. When does one use the round paste roll and how often? Any info is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi and Welcome..
Could you take some photos so we can see please.....
As the black side could be felt and the tan will be the leather, so you would use the black first then the brown.

But I have just found this and it might help no end

I would not use the paste and you dont need to go at that speed in the video that comes with time and practice

Thanks for the video, here are some photos. No audio in the vid, looks like mine, but wider. Any idea why it’s good to go black fuzzy to smooth tan next?

When you strop after a shave use the black side that will help dry the edge, I do around 40 laps on that side a lap is 1 stroke up and down.

then flip it over to the tan side rub your hand up and down it, to put oil from your skin on the leather to soften it
then do around 60 laps.

Once finished put razor in a dry place to air, out of the bathroom is good idea as the bathroom is damp most of the time.

After a time put the razor back into its box it came in, job done when you come to use the razor again just strop it on the tan side. That is the leather a few times that will freshen the edge before you shave...….

But you could do with 2 straights when you need to send one away to have it honed, you still have a razor to carry on with till yours comes back..... Larry at http://whippeddog.com/products/find/straight-razors-1/page:1 is a good choice and cheap and are shave ready.....
