What's new

New to SE shaving

I bought a Gem 1912 a couple of weeks ago on the big auction site and picked up a package of razors at CVS to give it a whirl. Having grown up using the cartridge and disposables, the first shave was a little intimidating. Had a 3 day growth going for the first run and managed to not mangle my face. I shaved WTG and came back for ATG with my standard weapon of choice (Bic disposable). Not too bad. Waited a week and gave it another try with only a day's growth. 2 passes later, not bad, about as close as normal. 3rd try this morning before work. 2 days of growth, 2 passes - WTG & ATG. Pretty decent shave. I always seem to have a spot or two that would be a little closer and today was no different.

I am really taking my time while shaving especially around my nose. Can't quite figure out the best technique to get up to the base of my nose above my lip.

I am planning to keep using it for my daily razor for a while and see if I can improve my technique some. Overall, I'm pleased with the results so far.

Any advice or tips?

Thanks!
Jerry

This is hard to explain but try pulling your upper lip down across your teeth, it stretches the skin and makes it easier to get under the nose. I have a stash but I still shave just under my nostrils. That works well for me with a 1912.

I just do an across the grain pass under the nose, the corner of the razor can reach prettier much any point there.

+1 I go E2W then W2E on my 2nd pass. I use mine daily, and while not always BBS, I do get DFS's. (Just a side note, even my best days with ANY razor, I couldn't always get BBS)

I do a modified slant down on each side of my nose and a slant up when I am going S-N. just under the nose is a difficult area, but if you just modify your routine to get that area you should be ok.
