New (to me) Olympic shavette

This shavette was sent to me as part of a PIF a while back. It is stamped Olympic Trading Co, Brooklyn, NY. I finally got around to using it this weekend and it is great. The scales are obviously cheap, but the blade arm seems well built. It has a unique closure method. The two halves open like a pair of scissors, and when you close them they lock together. It takes a half DE blade, but look at the crazy blade exposure! It looks like it is in there crooked, but it is not. I'm not sure if that is original or if the metal is worn down one the one side. Appears to be the latter.

The shave is great for a shavette. The blade holder is shaped in a wedge shape so the angle of use is intuitive and what you'd expect from a straight. It is also fairly heavy so it is better balanced and weighted than a Parker shavette. I tried to look up some info on this razor, but came up short. I assume it is vintage, but I couldn't guess how old. Regardless, I love the design and this shavette will get regular use in my rotation.

It's nice!

With blade exposure like that you might one day graduate to just super gluing a blade onto a chopstick once a week.

Funny you should say that Kent! While shaving with it, I definitely was thinking about that thread. I was actually thinking that it may not be as difficult as it sounds. Maybe I'll save that venture for the video series!

If you or Seraphim could perfect the technique and hardware it would be the perfect tool for a person wanting to test the straight shaving waters. Heck I might try it out myself tonight!
