New to DE Shaving - last question from me before purchase i hope!

Hi everyone. I have had a few questions before i have bought my new razor, and this i believe to be the last before i have enough information to buy! Thanks for being patient with me

I have looked in a shop which sells razors today (they only sell parkers and armatis) but they dont have merkurs, which is what i am looking at.

My question is this: Which is preferable, a long or short handle? I looked at two in the shop, and they were both lightweightish, one long and one short handle. I had no preference between the two, so wondered if there was a reason to go with either?

I am leaning towards the Merkur 23C, but had also heard the 38C was good for beginners as it is heavy, but i'm not sure about the short handle, and its quite a bit more expensive...

Well, it's kind of a personal preference thing. Some guys with larger hands like the longer handle. Some folks find the larger handle and extra weight unwieldy.

Personally, I have several Merkurs and I like the longer handle and extra weight, but I still use my other razors frequently. However, for your first I would probably go with the smaller one until you get the hang of things. You could always look on the B/S/T forum later on if you still wanted to try a long handled razor.
