New to Aftershave - Recommendations?

I'm an aftershave virgin, so I need some help here. I don't see myself as one of these "buy a 1000 aftershaves" types of guys, so I want a nice one out of the gate. Not really look for Brut or Old Spice so much.....ideas?

If you gives us an idea of how strong a scent, cooling sensation etc you like then you can get recs tailored to you. I started with Pinaud Clubman and haven't found anything I like better. This after sampling probably 20 scents so far.
Do you like lemon, lime, menthol, citrus, woodsy, musky, barbershop etc?
You can find samples at Garry's and The Shave Den.

+1 on Speick. A little more expensive than the drug store stuff and usually only available online, but probably my #1 aftershave splash.

IMO Spanish Floid and Alt Innsbruck would fit this discription...

That said, I do like having a variety to choose from.

Speick for something that has the best combination of a great scent upon application and soothing properties.... it's hard to beat. +1 on Alt Innsbruck as well.... if you like menthol and tobacco. It's a particular scent.... but great. Very soothing as well.

I'm still in the stage where I'm trying just about anything and everything AS right now though.... ASAD big time.

Aqua Velva has a great feel and fresh neutral scent + it's cheap and probably available close to you. If you don't like it, you only wasted $3.00.

That being said, Speick is my favorite.

You will have to determine what your signature aroma will be. Pretty much your own personal scent. I have 3 main after shaves that I use and that people know as my scents. Depending on my mood I will either use Pinaud Clubman, Pinaud Virgin Island Bay Rum, or the original Shulton Old Spice. Those scents coupled with pipe smoke make all of my friends and family think of Steve.
