What's new

New straight, anyone know it?

Bought a new razor the other day, partly for the looks and partly the comedy value of the name. Now I've got no pics to post as I didn't have time before leaving for the morning train but I'll give you some info.
Maker is Sahara
Model seems to be Camel Rider
Says its made in Solingen

So I've honed it up, spent a little while concentrating on the toe (told you that there was comedy value in the name) and she shaves really nicely.

I know that you won't believe me until I post the pictures but I'm curious.

Sahara was first registered as a brand of Edmund Bergfeld & Sohn. They also made Globusmen razors. The business was divided between Karl and Rudolf , Edmund's sons, when Edmund died and the Sahara brand belonged to Karl Bergfeld. Rudolf got Globusmen. Karl went bankrupt in the 1950s and his brother Rudolf bought the assets of the company, including the Sahara name.
Pictures would help, but it still might be hard to date the razor.
Regardless, it should be a very good razor.

Edit: If the razor is not marked Edmund Bergfeld & Sohn, then it would be post Edmund's death. Camel was a distinct brand prior to his death. Karl used Sahara as his company name and most of his production did not have the Bergfeld name on the product. It may date the razor from the late 1940s to early 1950s.

Right, ill try and take some pics this evening. In any case it honed up nicely and shaves well - took a lovely edge even if I'm a learner honer.
