New Shave Cream Discovery WOW

DE wet shaving is new to me. 3 weeks to be exact. My bathroom looks like a chemical lab, with oils and essential oils. I've been trying Different shaving oils and dicovered, I could make my own, just as good, on the cheap. Wet with water, than SO, rubbed in, and usually use CREMO shave creme. Today I was at Sams, and picked up this product. genes Vitamin E Creme. It was reasonable, less than $6.00. for a 16 ounce pound jar. As soon, and I got home, tried it out. First the, wet face with warm water, than my home made SO, than the vitamin E Creme. WOW, a great, smooth close shave, with no burns, or nicks. I just patted dry, and my face feels smoother, than with any balm. The 1 lb. jar should last a very long time. I have no personal interest, in this company, and just wanted to share my experience to the B&B members. :001_tt2:

When I first started I tried some natural glycerin soap and washed my neck with it, then shaved. Possibly I applied a slight amount of pressure, but never that much. This caused an immense amount of red on my neck and slight pain. It wasn't gene's, but I used vitamin E cream mixed with a bit of triple antibiotic (neosporin). That seemed to help but it still took almost 3 weeks before it was completely normal again.

I never did conclude as to why the glycerin soap caused me so much of a problem. Possibly something else in it, package stated 25% glycerin. (it also said all natural, hypoallergenic)

My newest favorite is Mitchell's wool fat (I hear Tabac, and Kent are very similar). After trying MWF I don't know that I will ever look for anything else again. I still have some Proraso that I've revisited and still like, but I can't say it's as good as MWF.

Welcome to B&B!

Interesting. I have read Genes Vitamin E Creme product description and reviews by users on the web. I read nothing about using it as a shaving cream. Do you think the Creme is that good or do you think your homemade shave oil is that good? Or both?

Dan, My shave oil works very good with the Cremo, but using it with the genes, seems to be even better. I've only used it once, and will update, after using a few more times. genes, is a moisturizing creme, and mentions nothing about it as shave cream. I thought because of the ingredients, I'd try a shave with it, and was pleasently surprized. It contains many oils, including shea butter.

Dan, Shave no. 2 Wet, Shave oil, genes vitamin E creme, and shave. All went well, no nicks, bumps or burns. Patted dry, and put one finger tip on my hands, rubbed together and applied to my shaved face. It makes a great balm too. Another, BBS shave. It says on the jar, Swiss Collagen Complex. Moisturizing creme. Note, this is not a a soap, for using a brush. Just rub it on with your hands. There is no need to lather. The jar should last me, months.

You are correct. It is latherless. It's made to be a moisterizing creme. Just thought I'd give it try. I don't use a brush, at least not yet.

I don't use a brush, at least not yet.

I wouldn't imagine that using a brush would be a good idea. Not that it would do damage to your brush, but wouldn't add anything to your shave experience. I tried using a brush with a non-foaming shaving cream and it did not work.

Ken, Here's what I used:

1 part extra virgin olive oil
2 parts grapeseed oil
1 TBLSP mineral oil, baby oil is mineral oil, with a fragrance.
10 drops Essential Oil, use a scent, you like. I did rosemary oil

How do I use it?
Wet face with as hot of water, that my face will like.
3 or 4 drops of SO, in my wet hands, rub hands together.
Rub over shave area.
Apply cream or lather.
Let set, a couple of minutes to soften hairs, and shave, as many passes, that you use.

This shave oil is slick, you could shave with just the oil, If you add water to your face, it gets slick again.
I like cream or lather. Cremo is good stuff, and inexpensive, latherless, but you can see where your shaving.
Bought some Maca shave cream, the other day, and used a brush for the first time, and lathered it over the SO. (Super)

Making your own is cheap, and just as good as the expensive stuff. It will last a long time, with using 3 or 4 drops per shave.
Check youtube, make your own SO. Many, many recipes.

Good luck, it's easy and a lot of fun. You can get real creative, if you like.

I do use the genes moisture cream, every couple of days, with the SO. However I put on just a thin layer. I'm new, and finding out that one can use many, many different cremes, or liquids to shave with. One can even use baby oil, straight. I mostly apply the genes, as an after shave balm. Brush and lather, has my attentionnow.
