And let's not forget my shaving companion, my 1960s transistor radio!

The stuff in the picture are my Merkur HD, Persona blades(not used), Poraso shaving cream, Styptic pencil, van der hagen soap,(don't really like it), badger brush(from knife center), and samples of taylor of bond st lavender, fraiser's oriental spice, and a piece of Pre de Provence. All in all it was a great starting set. i get really nice shaves with it but i do have a problem. After I shave my face does burn alittle i don't use aftershave. Also about an hour or so afterward my face gets EXTREMELY itchy. Any sugg? Also the pictures were taken on a table made by myself. :thumbup1: Then there is my little buddy, the 1960s transistor. Got a nice deal on eBay awhile back.

Nice set but you probably want to add an aftershave for the post shave to get the burning and itching under control. If you don't like aftershave, you could use something simple like witch hazel. Looks like you are definitely headed in the right direction.

Don't be afraid to use a lot of product with that VDH. It's slick stuff with a good cushion, and it's cheap as dirt. I love the stuff.

I'm guessing those Personna's are from Walmart. I have them. I don't care much for them. A blade sampler will do wonders.

Definitely not a bad start. :001_smile

If you lather the VDH properly, it should give you a good shave. Keep at it. Try lathering in your hand instead of in a mug, so you can feel how the lather changes as you're building it.

Good start!

If you need some blade packs i can send you some no charge to try..

Derby, Red personna's, Gillette 7 O Clocks i am into Feathers now so i have a some to spare....

You might be allergic to menthol. Maybe you could use another cream or soap to lather with? Just a thought...

I think I may be. Today I used a lavender sample and not a single itch. I also changed out my blade. I used a new Persona which led me to believe it was my blade. I had a Merkur platinum in there and as I hear they are no good. Next shave I'll use the Poraso and see how it goes.

That would be great and highly appreciated. Thanks!

+1 other than that looks like you are off to the races!

You know I wanna kick myself because I had these in my cart and for some odd reason I took them out at the last minute! Now I really regret it. I am going to wait to get these though until I make another order there since the shipping is the same for like everything under $100 I think.

I stole your idea of the transistor radio... I totally loved the look of the one you have, so I went to eBay and bought a Roberts RFM3 in pretty good condition:

I love the little fellow. I bring him everywhere I go; tomorrow he'll accompany me to the beach.

Nice equipment btw :)

That's a great looking radio! Congratulations on it. I know what you mean. I bring mine everywhere also. Only trouble is that it is a little under powered and doesn't go very loud, but when i am relaxing and there is no sound it's perfect!
