New Safety: Vintage Gillette

Hey guys! Picked this up today at an antique store! Its my first vintage safety razor. I dont know much about it, so if anyone can enlighten me that would be great! Mostly would like to know a year! :) Thank you!

So I looked for a serial number and I couldnt find it! It says its a Regus Pat off? What does Pat off mean?

I have no idea about serial numbers. My understanding of Techs is that there are 2 main types - prewar and postwar. The prewar are slightly more aggressive than the postwar ones, but they are both supposed to be great razors for beginners (and non beginners). Prewar has slots that are triangular in shape, postwars are rectangular.

The handle is the Tech fat handle, which in my humble opinion is one of the best (and possibly the best) vintage razor handle for a DE shaver that I have seen for both aesthetics and grip.

Thanks for the info guys!! :) any things I should look for at antique stores? Certain brands or types of razors?

Hmm... interesting. Is this a good thing? Bad? or does it not really matter?

Doesn't matter. Just means that the razor had specific designs and other companies wouldn't be able to duplicate the exact same design.

That's a really nice razor, how much did it go for if you don't mind me asking

Thanks guys! :)

I don't believe the Fat Handled Tech razors have codes the way many other Gillette razors do. I know mind doesn't. Here is a very nice thread, with lots of pretty pictures, which should help you identify your razor:

My pre-war Fat Handled Tech was my very first DE razor and still gets plenty of regular use. IMO, it is very forgiving of early mistakes with technique, makes just about any blade seem very smooth and is a pleasure to shave with. I ended up replacing the original handle with one a bit longer, thicker and heavier. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with the original handle and it is very well balanced. It is mild but still shaves very well. I think you will like it.

paid 30$ for it. Probably over spent a little, but I used it today and it worked out great!
