What's new

New Merkur

Hello all,
I have an old gilette safety razor that I have been using for a few years. Problem is that every time I use it I seem to get a nick or few without fail, even when I am careful. I was reading some reviews of different Merkurs. It looks that maybe upgrading to a new razor might help this problem. I was thinking of getting a new razor and was interested in a Merkur. I would like to get one that would serve me well throughout the years. What are some suggestions for the best, or a good all around Merkur.
Thanks for your advice !!!

I like the Merkur 34C HD.

Can you post a picture of your vintage Gillette?
What blade are you using?
Your old Gillette should not be causing routine nicks. I'm thinking there may be a problem that can be fixed (or not).

38b or c barber pole with Gillette silver blue blades . Very comfi and close. I shave every day with no irritation and before I started de shaving I thought I had sensitive skin using mach3 turbo blades and AOS products

$IMG_4686.jpgHere is the picture of it. It is a

1954 Z3 Gillette Flare Tip Super Speed. I don't think there is anything broken on it. Although it is the only one I have ever owned, and hardly seen any others. My usual blade is Astra's. But I have tried many others.

What about the HD's?

I ended up with five Super speed flare tips and I'm not a fan. They were super cheap bought in the wild. For vintage Gillette I prefer a Diplomat or a Slim, in my very limited experience. Now the Merkur 34c HD was my only razor for fifteen years. Tried all kinds of cheap and premium samplers. Finally settled on Feather. Although it took a year to perfect my technique even with decades of shaving experience.

You can't go wrong with a Merkur 34c. I believe it's the largest selling DE razor in the world. I can see why. It gets the job done 1st class.

Interesting, I guess I have never seen a picture of a slant before. I figured it just had more of an angle on the blade (front to back instead of side to side). How does this make shaving different. Also, what are the advantages of an open comb vs closed?
