"New" Lathering Mug

Found this near my office yesterday. May not be that old, but got a decent deal on it

Tried to lather my Proraso white tub in it. I think I may be a face latherer. I did get a great shave with the Astra green blades I just started using. If I get a better lather on my face than in my mugs, guess I'll have to buy more soaps to fill the mug with :biggrin1:

I believe it came and went before the majority of the membership saw it. "Soap on a Rope" didn't dissolve in the too-wet receptacle in the shower. Mine was a disc shaped "puck" with a loop of soft rope sticking out its side. You hung it up on the shower head. Van der Hagen sells a shower / shave soap about the same size, with two layers.

I have one of those in the bottom of my Barbershop mug. No grating / trimming necessary. It's a nice big mug.

Great score! I've been trying to locate some vintage mugs and razors.

DE I have a lot of antique shops around my office. You never know what you can find. I found my slim there for $8. Just have to look. Half the time if you ask if they have any, they don't know. Just nose around. The shop where I got this had a bunch of old bowls, soup mugs with handles that would have done nicely

Those were made by Franklin Toiletries. I have a half dozen or so of them, along with their outstanding soap and a couple matching brushes.

Handsome! I like to use old mugs for soaps, as opposed to wood bowls, or odd bowls around the house; they're made for the job, and both more secure and less sloppy when whompin' up some soap lather. Heading for the flea market today with just that type of thing in mind

Also makes a nice coffee mug

And there's nothing wrong with a good coffee mug. The hunt is always fun

I saw one of those at an antique store a while back and that is an ideal size. I think it will quickly become a favorite for you regardless of what kind of latherer you are. Because of its width there will be less banging against the side which you will appreciate. Wise pick up. You are a man of good judgment. :wink2:

thank you so much Cajun! I got a great lather from a silver plated bowl I picked up last night. Think I need to spend more time loading up my brush before I go to the mug. You know what they say, Practice makes perfect

Suggy,

You are so lucky to have a lot of great resources around you to be able pick up such great finds. You should probably pick up more great stuff, you seem to have an eye for it and sell some on the BST. There are a lot of folks like myself who don't have access to great vintage stuff. I'm probably one of the few members that does not have a vintage Gillette.

I remember your silver shave bowl and now you've got this beauty. Way to go Suggy! I guess it makes for a great excuse to shop for more soap.

Go hit a flea market ("swap meet"), and look for the "stuff & junk" vendors, those guys with a little of everything. I got a 1973 Gillette Tech and a 1953 Super Speed, both in excellent shape, for $10 total yesterday, and I could've got him down a couple more bucks.

I found one last year in an antique shop. It was create for creating loads of lather till it fell and broke a couple of months ago. I can't run downtown here and get a replacement without an armed escort so I quess I will start looking for another one when I get back stateside.
