What's new

New...ish razor.

Well it had to happen. Finally got my first straight; £5 off ebay. Do you guys think it's restorable to it's former glory? It says "Select" on the blade, but the rest is in German I think. Anyone come across one of these before? I'm in the Uk, so if anyone can recommend a good restorer I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

You can bring the blade back to life with some sand paper on the cheap (find the tutorials on what to buy etc), then depending on the scales you can get it rescaled or take the scales off yourself and polish them up or make some scales (very time consuming process and requires a lot of patience).

It's all down to how much time / money you have as to your option.

If thats the case you might want try it yourself, are the scales and the hinge part of the blade okay (as in does it sit straight in the scales and are there no cracks etc)?

If so then it's a matter so spending £3-5 on some sandpaper at a car parts shop and then 3-4 hours sanding the blade.

If the scales are cracked I might have some scales I can take off of an old blade that will do the job (I have 7 I intend to rescale and restore coming on Thursday) they would need a clean up and I should have a small length of 1/16th brass rod + 2 washers you could have that for like £1 + postage. You would need a ball peen hammer to do that though and the pinning might not match since there will probably be a nickel wedge pinning.

If you don't have a ball peen hammer I have some microfastners for sale on bst and I can give you the scales with one of those you would just need a touch of super glue a junior hacksaw and a small file for those.

Hi that's very kind of you. I'll give it some thought, but I may go for a new one and sell this on and use the funds to go towards some soap, strop etc. The scales seem fine.
