I see these adjustable razors, i.e. the Slim and Fat Boy for example. I see people talking about turning to a #5 or #7 for an exceptional shave....just a silly question but is #1 the close/agressive shave or is #9?

The higher the number, the wider the blade gap and hence also the more aggressive!
Not silly at all. 9 is the most aggressive setting.
