New Feather replacing AS-D1

I've just looked on a UK seller's site and it states that the AS-D1 has been Recently Discontinued and that a New Model is Out Soon.

Does anyone have any more information about this new model?

Awesome! I love my AS-D1. It is my favorite DE razor. However, I do wish it were a little more "efficient" at times. I have resorted to using two shims or using an iKon OSS base plate (the comb side is GREAT with the AS-D1).

I asked a vendor and apparently Feather was having production issues with the heads. Every fourth head, or so, would come out inconsistent and blades were slightly skewed to one side when the head was screwed together.
Feather recalled the remaining razors from vendor who still had them in stock. The new model should be shipping in a few weeks. I'm not sure if will look different.

This is actually good news to me, as I don't want Feather to change the shave characteristics of this razor. I would hate to see every razor manufacturer try to move their razor to the "middle of the road" to appeal to the largest market segment. I have a rotation of razors which are all a little different, and my Feather covers the mild side of my shaving needs quite well while giving me the same high-quality construction as the other members of the rotation.
If they made their razor a little more aggressive, I wouldn't have need for it. I'd keep the one I have. When I want a more aggressive shaver I go to the DE89, Tradere SB, or a couple of others. If Feather tried to place their razor in the same spot as Tradere, Ikon, Edwin Jagger, Muhle, etc., the market would lose the extremely well made mild option it has now.
Just my 2 cents.

^ I see your point. Nothing shaves me more comfortably and safely than my Feather AS-D1. It truly must be the safest safety razor in the world. But every once in a while, I wish my AS-D1 were a little more aggressive, a little closer shaving...

Here is a note posted by Jatai International, the US Feather distributor, on their the Feather AS page.

Does anyone know who the supplier is for Italian Barber? Apparently it isn't Jatai, is it possible that they are supplied directly by Feather?

Does anyone know where the AS-D1 appears on the Japanese site? It appears to be non-existent in their list of products.

Thanks for the information. I am new to the site and relatively new to safety razor shaving. I just ordered the Feather AS-D1 today. I am glad I found out this information because I just canceled the order. I found it odd that only a couple of places on the internet had them and when I say a couple I mean literally two. I look forward to the new product because I am really eagar to purchase one.

I received another new Feather AS-D1 after gifting another one away recently. Fit & finish are perfect along with the blade alignment. A response to an email I sent to Feather stated the cap problem was minor and the AS-D1 is as healthy as ever. Lucky I got another when I did. If they increase the 'blade' gap it won't be the Feather any longer. A more aggressive shave from a Merkur 34c/HD or an Edwin Jagger 89 are wonderful with 2-3 days growth. The mild option of the AS-D1 as a workday shaver is perfect for me but I am intrigued to see what Feather comes up with to 'compliment' their original. I better save some cheddar!

I purchased an AS-D1 from Italianbarber.com -- I noticed it was defective as I have explained above in this thread.
The guy at Italianbarber claimed to be unaware of any problem with the heads, and was quite aggressively telling me
that I was crazy if I thought there was any manufacturing defect. He ignored my photos and claims and kept repeating
"I sell more of these in north america than any other seller and there have never been any defects" -- he said that I could
return the razor to him, but that if he did not see a defect he would not process a refund.

In the end I had to take matters into my own hands and contacted Feather Japan directly -- that's when I learned what
real customer service is -- they had the razor shipped back to the factory and replaced it with a defect-free razor.

I am based in Toronto and I do my best to support Canadian businesses, but I have to say that ItalianBarber.com is
a joke when it comes to customer service. I have no doubt that the guy is great when everything goes smoothly,
but as soon as a serious issue occurs, his attitude is basically "Screw You."
