New Custom Wood Brush and Razor Stand

Like promised here are some photos of the brush and razor stand for my Simpson 56B and Merkur Progress I built over the weekend.

I had some leftover bamboo flooring I used for stock. I planned it down, drilled it, cut it, shaped it with different radius coves and depths, milled and installed a small roundover trim to give additional mass to the footing and make it more masculine.

I chamfered the outside bottom and top corners for added detail. Glued and flush cut dowels for support. Got ideas from the web but wanted to give it my own artistic twist. Somewhat Roman, Greek, classical touch. I will make an elegant home for my brush and razor. I am happy with it being the first I have made.

I was going to begin the finishing process tonight with a stain coat but the bamboo seems to have a high water content and the humidity here has been and is super high so I am giving it a few days to dry out indoors before I start.

Since I was all set up for this stand I was going to make an additional stand that would have included a slot for my future Duke2 but I soon found out cutting the right size diameter was not guaranteed with the diameter measurements alone so I am holding off on it till I purchase it one day. The protruding coves on the handle do not give you much room for error.

Really nice work! About how many hours do you have in it?

Ty gentlemen for the compliments . I looked at my watch and I had 5 hours when I finished the woodwork, included was schematic time. Had another 45 minutes using an epoxy wood filler shaping and sanding a few chips (did that the following day). The bamboo chipped a little around the detail work. You won't be able to tell when I am done finishing it though. Also the parallel cuts to the round diameter cut outs were tricky and left a couple of tiny saw bites on the bottom of top that also had to be epoxied, shaped and sanded. I also made a knife block that holds 5 kitchen knifes on the same day out of the same bamboo floor planks, no shaping just cutting, glueing, sanding, drilling and screwing ..lol. Looks clean and very functional, I will post a photo of it later. In all a very productive day.

This is the knife block I mentioned above. It hides behind the base cabinet door out of sight. The raw edges also need to be stained and varnished. Just posing for a picture there. Clean, practical and functional.

Really nice work. You built all of those things in one day, essentially 8 hours. I could work for 8 years and not finish both of those projects. Great stuff.

Thanks again gentleman. It was actually almost 9 hours by the time I finished the knife block. I will give it till Sunday for the bamboo to dry out before I start the finishing process. I will post photos with the finished product and the 2 new residents comfortably resting :).
