What's new

New brush advice, similar to Baxter travel

1. I own an Omega stripey, and a Baxter of California travel brush. The stripey is too prickly, not a huge fan. The Baxter is great, but the handle is very light. I think this is a Pure Badger brush, and I believe it is made by Muhle? I know that their other brushes are Muhle, but I'm not sure about this one. The head is quite small, I think.

2. I mostly face lather. Occasionally bowl. Most important that it works for face.

3. I want a brush with basically the same head as the Baxter, but with a much heavier handle. I wouldn't mind a little bigger head, but I don't really want a huge brush.

4. I don't have a huge opinion about brush aesthetics.

5. I don't really have a budget. I'll buy the right brush regardless of cost. Since Silvertip is probably out (I want a stiffer and less soft brush, I think), I don't expect to pay that much, but if there is a brush that is going to be better for what I want I don't really mind the price.

6. I want something small-medium, similar in size to the Baxter travel. I believe it is smaller than their other ones by a bit. I would like some more heft in the handle, though, but by no means do I want a heavy brush.

7. Edwin Jagger Best from the thread Joel put up about different bristle types looks good.

8. This will be my last or only brush, and "SBAD hasn't really gotten ahold of me."

9. What does "SBAD" mean? :confused1

Consider a Simpsons Duke 2 or 3 in Best. It's really an outstanding brush. Perfect for face lathering or bowl lathering. Just a great all around brush, with plenty of back-bone and scrubbiness.

Try a Rooney Size 1 or 2 in Super. Fits most everything you outlined. They're in no way floppy or overly soft, have nice density and good backbones. Good luck!

Or even a Rooney 1/1 in Best. I bought one for my father-in-law to be, and it's great. I might buy myself one too. (Incidentally, I own a Rooney Heritage 2, which I received as a gift from my fiancee -- at my request.) If I were to do it over, I might have asked for a Rooney Heritage 1, not 2.

I received the Baxter Blue in the Carnival last year (Review). That handle has some heft to it. It is also a Muhle made brush. I would think that any of the Muhle that have that metal looking core to the brush will be fairly heavy. The Baxter isn't my go to brush, but I've got no complaints about it.
