Good day - first post so please excuse me if this has been discussed before. I started wet shaving about 2 months ago with the VDH kit (brush, bowl, soap) and I also rotate Musgo Real cream. I've done the lathering thing different ways (on puck, in separate bowl, on face) and the boar brush seems to work fine.
While home visiting Mom I asked if there were any shaving materials left from Dad. She poked around and came up with a small badger brush (almost looks travel size). So I brought that home and tried it. What I've found is that it's much softer and gentler on my face, but when I apply pressure the bristles spread apart so far that the contact surface is basically the center handle. It seems to "paint" lather very well but doesn't hold up to vigorous circular or back-and-forth application.
Soooo...is this a characteristic of all badger brushes? Am I using a poor technique? Should I buy a new badger or just stick with the current boar? Thanks for any advice.
