Just grabbed this for about £10.
polished it up a bit and honed and paste stropped quickly til it's now popping arm hairs easily.
stamp says: rameau fab
seno (yonne.
Then fades away under scales so can't see more...any ideas?

Well I'm no pro and one side does appear to a bit of a wavy bevel....I've honed it hard on that side to even that bevel out a bit then reset bevel and honed it to a good edge.
i guess it's nothing close to what a pro would do with it but ill be pleased if it shaves!
It's only my 2nd attempt at polishing and honing etc

Not too bad for what you paid for it, I think. Has a few faults but nothing that can't be fixed or lived with. Let us know how it shaves!

Nice - there's no magic involved with honing, keep at it and you'll be as good as or better than the so called 'pros'.

hopefully will be shaving with it tonight on 2 days growth; will see how it goes.
had it cutting on the HHT last night so I reckon its about as good as I need it to be right now.
the bevel isn't perfect on one side still, cant see if its a very slight bend in the blade or just really bad bevel setting on that side; and there is a slight pitting along the edge where surface rust has effected the edge.
I intend to work on it a lot more yet to set that bevel and try to resolve the edge pits; but its certainly acceptable for me as of now...being my second SR im not fussed about spending huge amount of time on it to get it better whilst I continue to shave with my other one.

can you tell me what you perceive as faults? being new to all this I have no idea what to really look for.
I saw the tip was slightly rounded; but the rest looked ok to me (hence I bought it)

The rounded up toe is one, yes. But also look at the heel. Notice how it is developing a very wide bevel at the stabilizer? That is because the foot of the stabilizer is beginning to intrude into the bevel plane. It is only a minor issue at present, but in a few years of regular use it will have a more noticeable effect, especially when the root of the stabilizer begins to intrude. That's the juncture of the stabilizer and the spine. When your blade locally presents more steel near the heel end than elsewhere on the blade, the toe end will begin to hone more quickly than the heel. This can result in a tapered blade, after many years of honing. You can also develop a "heel hook", a protrusion of the edge at the foot of the stabilizer. As it is only just becoming noticeable, it is not a major thing right now but be aware of it not only in this blade but in any others that you might consider buying. It is not really a defect... merely a product of normal wear. When it was new, very likely the shaving edge did not overlap the stabilizer because there was a slight roundness at the heel. Look at a new razor of standard hollowground type with stabilizer and you will see what I mean.

You paid a reasonable price for it and a few imperfections are to be expected. Still a razor worth honing and having. It sounds like it honed up okay so it should shave.

I really can't see the bevel issues that you pointed out, in your pics but it sounds like nothing that will effect the shave or the honing much at all. Anyway the proof will be in the shave. Good luck!

the bevel issue is only on one side..rather than a full bevel along the entire ridge it has a wide bevel centrally then tapers off to each end. or at least it did!
now ive attacked it and reset the bevels a bit its a lot better than what it was.
$jo53.jpgthis is what it did look like...but again you cant see the bevel...still the blade has polished nicely!
